Hi, what speed do you usually average at on a clear motorway? I ask because I came across a speed camera setup on a Motorway bridge near Barnsley on the M1 on saturday.
It was parked at the far side of the bridge as I approached, and so it was practically invisible ( I look out for white vans and police cars on bridges so I caught it early ). Anyway, as I got closer, I could see before I passed under the bridge through the railings that there were 2 guys with tripods looking down onto the motorway, presumable watching the other direction of traffic, but probably the direction I was going in to.
I think I was doing about 75 - 79 when I spotted the van, although as I said the guys were facing the other direction. As well as this I was in the inside lane and I think they were only looking at the centre lane.
This is the first time I've seen this sort of setup on a motorway bridge, and unless I was really alert and looking for it, I would not have seen it.
There was the usual panic breaking as other people noticed approaching the bridge. This leads me to the question, how fast do you usually go on the motorway?
This incident has shook me a little, so I'm sticking to 70 now, although the M1 has some large hills in this area, so unless you are concentrating on the speedo, you just find yourself matching the speed of the car in front (within reason)
