How fast does your PC boot up?

I think, but I could be wrong (as I dont reboot often) mine takes about 1min to load in to vista, and I have 2 RAID controllers enabled.

If the External is on a non Native SATA Controler ie your on a Intel Mobo but the rear ports are say Silicon Image then you need wait for the Mobo Bios then the Silicon Image Sata Controller Bios Screen to come up.

Thats what the pause is.

Only way around this is to use a PCI Break Out SATA to ESATA Bracket to connect one of your Internal Intel Sata ports to outside case, it will boot instantly same as the Internal; HDD's. ;)

You do realize I have absolutely no idea what you just said. :D

I'll do some research and try and figure out what all those words mean. Thanks. :p

Use the Mobo's Chipset SATA Ports, ie Intel on a Intel Chipset Mobo or Nvidia on a Nvidia Chipset Mobo.

If you use the rear ones on the I/O panel they are 99% always 3rd Party like Silicon Image and this adds addition time to the Boot Sequence as it has to load the SATA Bios for that Controller after it load the main Mobo Bios.

Just timed mine from pressing the power button to desktop and both rigs are on XP. Second pc (everything other than gaming pc) takes 28 seconds (all unneccessary Windows services disabled) and my gaming pc (in siggy) takes 19.7 seconds. It has a very stripped down XP installation and no firewall, AV or anti spyware software as it is never connected to the internet. There really are loads of stuff you can disable to speed things up. Check out the excellent Black Viper website.

Boot up times normally do not count your Bios screen as they all differ depending on Mobo and does not count Vista's Prefetch.

Just the old fashioned from part where Windows starts till it is fully usable (used to be hourglass gone) lol.

Hmm, very little time at all then. As soon as i hit desktop i can use my PC. On my old PC i had to wait a good 30 seconds while the hdds were seeking or it would just slow to a stop for ages.

Just timed it, took 37 seconds. My laptop is quicker and takes only 27, but I expect the increased time on my desktop is due to the myriad of hard drives I have installed.
