How fast is the internet on your work computer?

Considering I own/run an ISP and our office has a L2 connection to the data centre @ Gbit, it's pretty fast :)

20Mb/20Mb fibre to our group MPLS, which then breaks out to a 30Mb internet connection.

Not my decision - group politics unfortunately won out.

Prior to that I had an aggregation of 3 ADSL lines and a 20Mb/20Mb Internet facing business fibre (aka leased line) with Satellite for backup :)

12/01 when the management isn't in
0.1/0.1 when they are because they love sending over-sized pdf's to a 10,000 strong mailing list from the in-house exchange server.

I wasnt even aware you can get these speeds. Does it mean fibre is coming straight into the building?

Yes a dedicated fibre into the building.

Installation costs were crazy as they have to "blow" a new fibre all the way back to the exchange, plus terminate on site etc. Which is why it tends to be a business only product.

They're also highly, and I mean highly, monitored. If you were to download an ep of Game of Thrones on it, the ISP would be contacting your IT dept almost immediately. We've had a few...instances like that.

Long lead times, excess construction charges, wayleave agreements etc - it's a pain in the bum at the best of times. About £1000 a month as well.

Not too shabby :D

speedtest.net gives me 80mbit both down and up. Ironic, because our PCs are late-2003 spec (P4 2.8), and it takes around 30 seconds to load a BBC news article because the CPU can't keep up. Coupled with the fact that we run Internet Exploder 7 that can't render half of the internet lol.

0.5Mbit/s each way... a vast improvement on the 64Kbit/s single ISDN channel we had up until recently.

Most of us use our phone 3G or similar for anything not sensitive as its usually quicker.

about 27down 10up on the uni wifi at its best, the stations themselves vary, the ones in the engineering block are abysmal blocked Internet that 9 times out of ten fails to load the intranet. ironically wifi is pretty good in the same room
