How feminists effect gaming

Why is this Tracer character not allowed to stick her arse out? Who possibly gets offended by that?

Am I allowed to get offended by Zangief getting his big hairy chest out and flexing his guns?

this

Nobody got offended by it, someone just pointed out that it was out of keeping with the character. There are other far more overtly sexualised characters in Overwatch where that kind of pose is available and fits in with the character.

it's an optional pose

Just a quick 2 cents... what wrong with that pose? It's just a chick with her back to the camera looking back over her shoulders, standing still not doing anything special. Is that somehow supposed to be 'adventurous' or 'raunchy' cos I don't see it?

The funny thing is, that pose is used a lot in all sort of other games. Various FPS games have male soldiers posing like that so I guess they'd have remove those images too? So if logic is correct, movies can't ever have scenes showing anyone from behind? Good luck censoring real life too, cos guess what... if you walk behind someone their back is facing you. That's supposed to be sexual?

Seems to me like the original 'complainer' had their mind stuck in the gutter when playing the game. The reaction is as if the pose was instead the character doing a pole-dance or something. You want a real 'sexual' pose? Go play MGS5 and sit in the chopper with Quiet as your buddy. Enjoy having an arse literally shoved in your face, it's a far cry from a woman just standing still with her back to the camera.

As the game director, I have final creative say over what does or does not go into the game. With this particular decision, it was an easy one to make—€”not just for me, but for the art team as well. We actually already have an alternate pose that we love and we feel speaks more to the character of Tracer. We weren't entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively. That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision—”getting that kind of feedback is part of the reason we're holding a closed beta test€—but it wasn't the only factor. We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better.

We wouldn't do anything to sacrifice our creative vision for Overwatch, and we're not going to remove something solely because someone may take issue with it. Our goal isn't to water down or homogenize the world, or the diverse cast of heroes we've built within it. We have poured so much of our heart and souls into this game that it would be a travesty for us to do so.

We understand that not everyone will agree with our decision, and that's okay. That's what these kinds of public tests are for. This wasn't pandering or caving, though. This was the right call from our perspective, and we think the game will be just as fun the next time you play it.

I'm sure a bunch of sweaties know better how to make a game than Blizzard though right?

nailed it IMO

I don't understand how a female bottom can be inherently sexist. Are they saying that no attractive female characters are every allowed to have their bottoms featured if they are wearing tight trousers etc? And why should breast physics be sexist? Breast move up and down etc - there is nothing sexist about it. Male muscles and bodies are portrayed in pretty explicit ways the whole time but nobody complains.

And why is it ok to show a male character in exactly the same pose and in tight trousers?

Are men's bottoms not susceptible to this rule? Is it only female body parts that trigger waves of pathetic sexist nonsense?

So what was sexual about the pose? Are we saying that this character can never be portrayed with her bottom to the camera? Do you think her bottom is inherently sexual?

If she stands face on to the camera, surely then we can all see the shape of her breasts and contours etc. Why is this better than the rear view?

Please clarify.

The character was sticking her exaggerated butt out towards the camera...it's a pose that fits in with the overtly sexualised Widowmaker (which still has the same pose), but didn't fit in with the character of Tracer.

I'm sure you know more about creating successful video game characters that appeal to a wide audience than Blizzard though

The only people getting offended here are the minority of whiners that clearly Blizzard doesn't really care about.

I didn't say the easily offended dork crowd wasn't incredibly vocal on the internet....I said that developers don't really care what they have to say, they don't represent the target market any more, you're just an increasingly irrelevant minority.

What an utter clown. Though he has a right to his opinion. I almost feel as though he made that comment to align himself with apparent "majority" of people who would also find the joke offensive.... I personally couldn't care less. As I love the tekken series.

These days it Seems as though the only people who can get away making such jokes are comedians..... I miss Richard Pryor

yh political correctness has gone to far

I really despise their sort.... Moaning for the sale of moaning.

There's a reason these morons stick to the internet. If they carried on like that in public, the chances of them being assaulted would be fairly high.

Just let people create whatever they want and if you don't like it, don't buy it. Get a new hobby....such as attempting suicide.
