How hard can it be to return an IPhone to it's owner?

My Daughters came home from Leeds Festival with an IPhone and I must admit for about 30 minutes it was going to be mine and looked on the Net for ways for that to happen.
The phone was locked with a Passcode so I couldn't do anything there.
A steady stream of text messages came in and one said 'Please return my friends phone, reply to this number, happy Leeds Festival' but of course I couldn't.
Finally a Facebook message came in from a girl and there couldn't be 2 people on Facebook with the same 3 barreled name so I searched for her and sent her a message.
I then looked for Becci the owner of the phone and after about 5 Rebecca's I came across this - http://www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/pics3/becci2.jpg
So I've messaged her and the 2 people who replied to her.
NOTHING.
I've messaged around 10 friends and still NOTHING.
About 10 minutes ago I get a phone call from an Irish bloke who nearly puts the phone down saying he's got the wrong number but I keep him on and it's her real Dad ringing from America who said he will phone her Mother in England.
I honestly can't believe she hasn't rang her own phone.

Funny, lose your phone and post it on fail book rather than ring your own phone. Young person logic? :(

Well, you're litterally doing all you can, expect driving to her house to give it to her.

Just had a phone call off her Uncle who also thought he had the wrong number.
Apparently her Step Dad has ran out of credit ringing & texting her (I DON'T BLOODY THINK SO).
He did send one earlier today saying 'Becci, where the **** are you?' and that was it.
It was also the text that made me want to return it.
The problem is that Becci has gone missing and hasn't been in touch since she went to Leeds and come back so they are extremely worried at the moment.
I said she's probably cacking it because she's lost her phone and doesn't want to tell her Dad.
This Uncle parted with 'So there are some nice people in Stoke' :D

I once saw a bloke walking out of Tesco with a big crate of Carlsberg. I went into Tesco to find an iPhone atop a large pile of Carlsberg which I assume was left there by the Carlsberg guy. I picked up the phone, and tried to work out how to call from it. It rang in my hand and the guy came back with his mates to retrieve the phone. I felt a bit sorry for him, only being able to afford Carlsberg due to being tied to a £700/month contract, and handed him his phone back. I'm not surprised he didn't offer me a beer with the amount he has to spend each month to keep his iPhone happy.

However, I was glad to be shot of such a pretentious device TBH. :p

Very cool story - it's quite cool (-scary?-) to think you've actually traced this from the phone to her facebook page, her friends and whatnot.

It's nice to know nice people are around and TBH I think you deserve a pat on the back for just generally being nice.

Nice one ;)

(I should find new words to use other than nice - but it's almost 11pm on a monday.)

I'd have kept it. Got half my beer and my chair nicked at leeds fest :(

People who take decent phones etc are just asking for it to get lost. Every young person has an old crappy phone laying around somewhere they could take to these things.

It is quite scary! If I lost my phone they would have access to my mails, facebook and all sorts :o (if they could my language that is) but I guess that comes with the information society we will in. If you google my phone number, my name and address and even a google streetview of my house comes up!

This. I never take a my hd2 out with me, just asking for trouble.

That's exactly what Mrs Poole said.
From one random name coming up on her phone which was a bit like Ricky Windstrup Benson I was able to trace this young woman, look at pictures of her (quite nice) and know where she works.
Bit scary this internet.

Back when I was in Canada and had a job as a Ski Liftie, people would always loose their phones in the Gondolas.

We were obviously supposed to turn any lost property over to the Lost Property department, which considering this is a huge Canadian Resort was not the best plan with a phone, as it ends up in a box and would be a nightmare to try and get back.

So instead, if we found a phone, we would always keep it and wait until somebody called, as you sometimes even got a tip out of it. I myself had two incidents that really stick with me.

The first was where I found a phone and they called me and arranged a time to meet them. So I went to the agreed place with a friend and we waited 25 minutes after the time we had agreed to meet the person. Eventually I got a phone call and they told me they would come now! About 10 minutes later they turned up, and a guy said "Are you the guy's who have the phone?" I said "Yes, Are you *whatevername*?" to which he said "No, I'm his cousin *whatevername*". So I handed over the phone and they just turned around and walked off, without even saying thank you. I was so annoyed!

The most amusing memory though was where a phone was found dropped in the snow at a lift que, and it was handed to one of the girl lifties I worked with. So she waited for a call, and when one came through she answered it, too which the girl calling demanded to know who she is and 'Why the &*^! have you got my boyfriend's phone?". She tried to explain who she was and that it had been handed in, but the girl just wasn't buying it! She went totally mental at her! Later on in the day, the guy whose phone it was actually called and apologized for his girlfriend, as he said she thought he was cheating! He couldn't pick it up until the end of the day, so we amused ourselves by taking loads of pictures on it, which he no doubt later discovered after getting it back!
