How hard can it be to return an IPhone to it's owner?

It's a nice idea but when i've looked into this, the monthly cost plus the excess puts the cost into 3 figures after a few months. Then there's the hoops you have to jump through to claim and ofcourse the get outs. I'd sooner take the risk than spend £100+ anyway plus have all that hassle. I suppose if you clain within 2-3 months it's worth it but if you were to claim after 12-18 months then the amount that you have paid in premiums plus the excess to far too big a chunk of the phones current value once it's 12-18 months old.

I insured my £400 phone for £50 for a year with a £50 excess.

My husband lost his white 32gb Iphone at Leeds festival on Friday... we kept going back to the lost property tent but nothing handed in and I've emailed Leeds festival to. Have telephoned his number every day but straight to answering machine... Stupid idiot had it in his pocket and I think it fell out when he was enjoying himself at the Gallows gig (rather than someone pick pocketing it...) I'm still furious with him!

I understand what people are saying about not taking expensive phones and take a cheap one instead.... or at least have it insured - my husbands wasn't !!! ARGHHHH!!!!
Hah, fancy that. Gallows gig were going to be the perfect example of why I don't take expensive phones to festivals, and why my camera (still a fairly cheap one) barely left my tent all weekend. Crowd surfing and moshing just asks for stuff to fall out of my pockets.

You can easily make an iPhone last a weekend, unless you're constantly on it which seems strange if you're at a freaking festival.
Really? I use mine a lot to meet up with people, and it makes me glad its got a battery life of forever.

Am I a bad person?

Also, since we're on the topic of stuff getting nicked at festivals, let me ask people's opinions on this:

On Thursday at Leeds we decided to get the bus to Tesco's to stock up on booze, and I found a wallet on the top deck. Had a drivers license, debit card, a cheque, some random bits of paper, and £25. Could have handed it in, could have nicked the cash in it and left the wallet to rot. But instead, we decided to spend the money on random **** in Tesco's, and pack it into the wallet, then hand it in to lost property, so he'd have a present when he got it back. We got him:
  • Whoopee cushion.
  • £5 worth of American dollars from the currency exchange.
  • Some gift wrap, which we wrapped his cards up in.
  • Some sticky letter decorations, with which we spelt "Hey we found your wallet" on the outside of it.
  • A selection of gift vouchers and discount cards we each had on us.
  • A passport photo of the four of us, inside a keyring/bottle opener doohickey.
  • An unused scratch card (to make up for spending his money).
  • A receipt for a £5 bet on it snowing at Christmas (from the neighbouring betting shop).

Tight, or genius? Even I have trouble deciding.

Ah!

I'd have moved and camped by the tent :D

Just imagine him being a bit upset at the shock of no wallet away at a festival and then finding it full of random things :D

A friend of mine had her bag nicked in bristol last week with wallet, phone, camera etc in. She rang her phone and said some chavvy scrote answered and was mouthing off telling her he was gonna rinse her bank account etc etc.
Her mum later rang and the thief responded with "she's in the shower, i'll get her to call you later".... Harsh but i found reply to her mum funny.

That's fantastic! I would have a good giggle at that. Though I woulda posted the wallet back to the address on the driving licence as there's a high chance he wouldn't have gone to lost property.

Your maths is somewhat flawed, at £4.50 a month it takes 22 months to reach 3 figures...

The ones I see are usually more than £4.50. Is there no excess on that?

I insured my £400 phone for £50 for a year with a £50 excess.

Again, £50 for a year is cheaper than most of the ones I see but even at that cost, with the excess you are paying 25% of the phone cost just in case. It's just too big a % of a potential payout to be paying as a premium.
