How hard can it be to return an IPhone to it's owner?

This gets better.
The girl rings up our home phone (I gave it her Uncle last night) and tells my youngest she is going to come fetch it from Runcorn.
She arrives and tells my youngest that she was going to buy her a bottle of vodka but went inside Bargain Booze and realised she'd got no money so she'll send her something in the post.
She thanks her, turns around and then says that she hasn't got enough money for petrol to get her home so my idiot daughter lends her £10:eek:

Why didn't I just press the button?

One for the good karma bank DM, one for the bank.

So I'll ask again, why bother taking one out if you're only using it for txts/calls? The only reason I can see for taking it out is "oh look at me I have a smart phone so I'm cool". I have a £25 basic phone with a few £'s credit on, and 9 times out of 10 I never use it apart from checking the time.

Why bother spending £25 on a new phone and then buying extra credit when you could just use that money to cover the insurance excess?

I for one are not going to buy a different phone for every different task, the whole point in a smart phone is that it does everything and replaces all the other devices.

I don't have insurance? There is a few pounds of credit that is never used, it's not an on going cost. My contract is 18months, that is a seriously long time (for me anyhow) to look after a phone. As another example, if I go cycling or on my motorbike I don't want to take a £300+ phone with me in case I fall off and smash it to bits, the phone is there as an emergency communication device.. I use my smartphone for surfing the net for info, when im bored, games, apps etc. If I I'm not going to use it, I won't take it with me, and by doing this I'll keep my phone and it will still be in good nick when the contract ends.

Edit-I didn't go out and buy a cheap phone, it was a phone I already owned, the only additional outlay was £10 credit on a free simcard.

But what about using an old phone with an old simcard and a few quid spare credit on. I've got 2 old phones, one on O2 one on orange both have about 3 pounds credit on (and have done for years), great for taking places where i might lose/damage my smartphone. I'd never dream of taking my smart phone skiing or to festivals, i see no argument against using a crap phone for those purposes.

If you have a £300 phone without insurance you must be crazy, I wouldn't dare use my phone either if I didn't, I could drop it and break it no matter where I used it, never mind a festival.

People like you are the reason insurance companies have a lot of money ;). I've had phones for the last 12 years and the only problem I've ever had was caused by a drunken friend, not myself. I would have spent at least 10x the cost of replacing that phone on insurance over the years.

People who claim on insurance cost companies money, not make them money. ;)

That's because you have cheap phones, many other people have expensive phones and insurance is worth it.

I'm surprised at the amount of people who don't have any confidence in their abilities to look after their own property.

I've had smart phones for the last 7-8 years or so, that involves many nights out, many festivals and even more beach parties and I've never lost one. I don't see why anyone would spend so much money on a decent phone, and then never take it anywhere.

I agree with you totally
Although i have lost my phone at the pub but it wasnt actually lost as i realised imiediatly and got it in the morning

That could be said for a lot of things though.
I always go out with my £250 IPOD touch and its not insured.
At least once a week I will have my £200 camera that's not insured.
Every weekend I will leave the house with at least £5000 worth of music gear which isn't insured.
I'm sure we all take insurance risks.

the one i took still had a fair amount of battery left after the weekend even using it as a torch for ages. Get home and my decent phone is flat as a pancake.

Of course theres no difference in taking a phone out with you to town etc or taking it to a music festival full of mosh pits, thousands of people pushing and shoving, pickpockets and fires :rolleyes:

Not really no, sounds like a typical town night out to me ;)

It's a nice idea but when i've looked into this, the monthly cost plus the excess puts the cost into 3 figures after a few months. Then there's the hoops you have to jump through to claim and ofcourse the get outs. I'd sooner take the risk than spend £100+ anyway plus have all that hassle. I suppose if you clain within 2-3 months it's worth it but if you were to claim after 12-18 months then the amount that you have paid in premiums plus the excess to far too big a chunk of the phones current value once it's 12-18 months old.

One thing you may be interested in that I found out is that my music gear is covered for rehersals and unpaid gigging under my regular contents insurance, but as soon as the show is paid it's not covered.

Another lost iphone at Leeds festival

My husband lost his white 32gb Iphone at Leeds festival on Friday... we kept going back to the lost property tent but nothing handed in and I've emailed Leeds festival to. Have telephoned his number every day but straight to answering machine... Stupid idiot had it in his pocket and I think it fell out when he was enjoying himself at the Gallows gig (rather than someone pick pocketing it...) I'm still furious with him!

I understand what people are saying about not taking expensive phones and take a cheap one instead.... or at least have it insured - my husbands wasn't !!! ARGHHHH!!!!

That is shockingly bad!

Your maths is somewhat flawed, at £4.50 a month it takes 22 months to reach 3 figures...

Sure but someone can't preach that people are idiots for actually using their mobile just because he doesn't have insurance.

Not really, just careful.

Unless you have an armed guard you can be robbed no matter how careful you are.

I've had smartphones for the past 6 years, and they have gone everywhere with me, festivals in the UK and abroad, nights out, everywhere! Nothing worse than having to make a long, hungover journey home with no musics.
