Found out whats wrong with the banging I am getting in my Focus. It is the front left spring that has snapped. Now how hard is it to change a spring? Should have access to a spring compressor.
Its not a particularly hard job, just be careful when compressing/with the compressed spring. Undoing the strut top nut can be a pain sometimes, its often easier using a swan neck spanner (and something to hold the top of the thread to stop it turning) or electric/air impact wrench if you have one handy.
Some coil springs require some serious compressing, I done a vectras which required 2 sets of compressors to get it compressed enough to get the strut top back on.
Decided to go garage. Only £20 more to use them. Especially when I don't have that much time I don't mind spending the extra. If I had more time I'd have definitly done it.
