What does fitness actually mean? I've got a drive with 0% fitness but 97% performance... I don't get it. :(
Fitness is a bit well can be untrue - its like car mileage, it will rate your drive to be less fit if it has be on/off more times on average than those reported by other users on the same hard drive, so the drive itself may actually be in perfect condition but because its been on/off more it will record that and put the fitness down, I think performance is the real indicator?

top one, one week old wd 250gb sata2 16mbcache
bottom one a year old one.

As far as I can see my older drive performs identical to the new one, but is being rated lower in fitness because its been switched on more then the new one obviously.

My new Seagate 320 gb I got from OCuk last month got:

The overall fitness for this drive is 78%.
The overall performance for this drive is 78%.

It went through a short stint of not working with the "Delayed write error" prompt, though I fixed it by changing the SATA ports.

Nonetheless, it looks bad :-/ Is there anything i can do to help it?

Mine was around that for the same drive purchased a few weeks ago, drive works perfectly and is a bit faster than my other which reported 100% on both. Not worried about it to be honest as the drive is performing perfectly :D

Well i noticed when iI look at the SpeedFan online results table it is much smaller and has less information, maybe this is the reason why

My 160GB Seagate is showing 91% fitness and 91% performance. If it's a linear scale then I'm pretty happy with that!

Is there an easy way to read this SMART info from an external drive? I've got a LaCie connected via USB that I'd like to check up on.
