Was always told eye level should be somewhere in the middle third of the screen, ideally at the bottom of the mid third so as above gives more of a cinematic experience.

As for sticking it up high to keep it away from the kids, just teach your kids not to act like monsters trashing everything.

Perhaps they may only learn their lesson after they've crayoned the screen or scratches it to buggery?
