How hot should a Q6600 Run?

Valdai, your tuniq tower isn't disimiliar to my Noctua job, I'm getting idles of 35Deg average [cores 3+4 are 5deg cooler than 1+2 - 33 adn 38 respectively] and about 63ish average under load on the lowest fan settings at the stock settings [2400mhz].

Does that seem a bit high? Would you be able to pop your machine to stock [you can save the current profile in the BIOS to go back to it afterwards as I'm sure you are aware] and bang a quick ten minute Prime95 on it with small FFTs to see what you get from it?

Pretty please :D I'd appreciate it, seeing as our machines are pretty similar in the important respects :)
 
This is mine under prime load at stock, quick run on small fft. Cooling is a TRUE black with 2 fans in push/pull, cpu fans were running at 50% speed (1000 rpm). Case fans (2 x intake, 1 exhaust) on medium setting.

Currently idling at, 26, 23, 23, 19. Cpu fans at 699 rpm, all case fans on low.

It's not too hot, but the cooler the better naturally.

If thats with the lowest fan speed i wouldnt worry to much about the idles. load temps are the ones to watch, if your running p95 make sure that all your fans are running at full speed and this will help to bring them down. Also the temp variation across the cores is normal on quads, mine has been lapped perfectly flat but still theres a difference.
 
Running the Max Heat test in Prime95 64bit on all four cores, CPU fans maxed out [too lazy to change the chassis fan headers to standard, gets a bit whooshy for my liking ;)] and going to order a pizza and have a wee. Will give it ten minutes then post a similar screenshot up.

Incidentally, I hate the ribbon control in Win7 MS Paint :( but at least it supports PNG now :)

Am aware of the Coretemp fluctuations due to it being a pair of Core2Duos, don't worry, i do keep up with the times :D

My main concern is for when I want to overclock it - I don't want the thermals to be the cieling for my OC. I managed to get 3.6 unstable out of it on teh Freezer 7 pro [instgability was down to voltage methinks, I didn't bother changing any], main reason for getting the Noctua was to get lower temps so I could push it further for if I have to do some video transcoding in a hurry. Or try to play Crysis past teh 'low' settings*. Or install Vista* ;)

So whaddya think, a bit high? I reckon that if others can get pretty much ambient temps I should be able to as well, at least cooler than that.

All at stock CPU settings.
 
With the fans at a higher speed the temps are a lot better. I also used to run a freezer 7, was good up to 3.4ghz, switched it out for the TRUE black and got to 3.6ghz, then 3.8ghz after lapping the cpu and cooler.

For my first oc at 3ghz i used the stock voltage of the cpu (1.2750) think this resulted in temps around 48-50c across the cores with the freezer fan at full speed.
 
StevenRaith here are my results as requested. Idle temps I was a bit surprised about as I remember hitting mid 20s before I overclocked but load was probably about the same.

This was with everything left completely on auto.

Hope that helps, your temps do seem a bit high for stock so try all the standard stuff like making sure contact is flat and good etc.

(ps, room temp 22.5C just in case yours is a lot different, can make a huge difference I've found)
 
Our temps are pretty much the same. Think the room temp here is about 25ish, but can't be sure. No thermometer in here ;)

I suppose whipping the HSF off, cleaning it and reapplying the AS5 couldn't do any harm. Job for tomorrow night perhaps.

Glad to see my temps aren't that far out though. Phew.

I'll have a crack at popping it up to 3.2ghz at some point though. 333FSB and 1:1 memory ratio, yes?

[I have OCZ Gold 8500 2gb x 4 in here so should easily be good for that]
 
It will wind me up though, only just installed the NOctua the other day. Might have overdone the Arctic Silver perhaps. Don't think so, but meh, only one way to find out, eh?

Very hot !, if its not running hot you need to overclock it more :p

Ah, cheers lad - I would have replied earlier but work was manic - having to order comms cabs and stuff, PITA.

EvilOne is correct however. Very tempted to lap the CPU while I have it out. Warranties are for softies, and if I screw it, I can pick up a base Conroe/Wolfdale, well, any recent Core2, and clock the living **** out of it anyway, for all I'll be doing with it - web, email, the odd game, which the HD4850 has more impact on in the grand scheme of things, till true muliticore gaming becomes a reality, as opposed to the wet dream it currently is - a core2 would be fine.

Or I could blow the rent money on a Nehalem...no, must resist. Or get work to pay for it at least [working on it for my personal workstation...]
 
Ah I was almost right, FSB: DRAM is 4:5 though I didn't really touch memory so that's just what it's stumbled upon.

Heh go for it if it looks a little off atm :) overclocking is already voiding warranty right?

No, I think lapping the CPU is a pretty decent idea given the temperatures [and range between the cores] I'm getting. I'll probably get a cheapy Core2Duo off of eba- er, a flea market full of lowest common denominator twatsticks with IQs that barely breach room temperature, before trying that, just in case...
