How I kept calm I'm not sure...

Look at all of you with your fast cars doing overtakes. I drive like a grandad in mine and often get overtaken by family wagons myself. :D Saying that I don't drive below the speed limit ****ing everyone off, yet people always still want to get past. People probably think I'm just a first time driver in a chaved up Omega.

If I see a quickish car in front, I usually hold back to get a nice run up in my CTR so I'm doing at least 30mph more than him before pulling out to overtake. Then they don't even have the chance to accelerate.

I like that plate for two reasons,

One my car, and second I'm a fan of the R-Type game :). Bit chavy tho, it's like the plate has a speech impediment.

Just read the CTRO thread. Wow.

A huge shame that I can't post there and that the thread has been locked because there are some people so far off the mark it is unreal.

At least we've confirmed that it is safe to assume that if you have an EP3 then you are probably some kind of knuckle-dragging moron.

Don't tar us all DRZ. I personally would have let you past, ( possibly braked to help you out a bit as it seems you were struggling ). Then on the next straight I would have safely smoked you :).

Theres definitely more younger owners now, i'd say target age is 23-30's. Hopefully due to insurance premiums they won't be able to reach 17-22 year olds. The faster car should always be out of reach to the newly passed driver.

So far off the mark it would have been beyond a waste of effort to discuss it. By the sound of the revs you were in third right?

Yep. Wasn't going for a banzai overtake (a mistake in retrospect I guess) just a quick clean pass. My car in 3rd is probably faster than lots of cars on the road are in 2nd so although not the fastest overtake possible, still pretty brisk.

Once I've got it all finished and mapped properly it'll be around the 210bhp mark and I'll be using 2nd. Hopefully that combo should mean idiots in CTRs won't be able to put up a fight in future...

Theres definitely more younger owners now, i'd say target age is 23-30's. Hopefully due to insurance premiums they won't be able to reach 17-22 year olds. I can now understand why fast cars should always be out of reach to the newly passed driver.

I don't know why you say struggling? I was in 3rd and I was still passing the CTR, just not as fast as necessary to complete the overtake in the space available (because he booted it). Look at his headlights, they were going backwards right up until I hit the brakes.

Let us not forget that at no point in the video (perhaps bar me shooting off at the end, but I was mad then :p) did I push the engine to the limits at all. I've only just built the damn thing, I'm still not mapped right and I'm still shaking things down. Not a problem when passing an average joe on a country lane but obviously a problem when up against a moron.

Also, my car as it is now should be quicker than a CTR in almost any situation when the fight is a fair one. Not hugely quicker, but quicker nevertheless. My car is significantly lighter than a CTR, has similar power (and thus a higher power to weight ratio) and has superior handling. My gear ratios in 4th and 5th are a bit short so top speed is a limitation really. Once the build is finished I will have 15-20bhp more than a standard CTR, will still weigh less and will still outhandle one. With all of that taken into consideration, I doub't you'd be smoking anyone (although if you tried to pass me on the road, I'd maintain my speed or slow down. On track would be a different story...)

I think the weight diff would make it a clear outcome, but the comments about 'your mx5 got pwnd, u mad?' etc are so stupid when its clear the cars were in different gears, that it clearly wasn't a competition or trying to prove a point, just goes to show the mentality you're dealing with. Quite sad that other drivers have to share the roads with ppl who behave like that

Driving with 'acceleration sense' makes the video event of 3rd gear passing perfectly appropriate as making good progress should not involve lots of high acceleration event and heavy braking. The hazard on the road there was the pleb in the Civic.

What would have finished that vid of nicely is the ctr driver leaving the road at high speed on that bend.

Been on your forum a few years now chris as well as Type R Scotland allot of sensible people on them unlike that other cesspool of chavs that happen to own type R's it really does add to the reasons to sell it.

I for one speed up if anyone tries to over take me, you would have to be an idiot not to. Not for any misplaced sense of pride or anything, but pure logic.

Cars that are side by side are infinitely more dangerous than cars in front or behind. If someone phones me up and we are side by side and I use the one hand on my steering wheel to answer the phone, obviously the car is going to turn if it hits a bump, if there is something next to me, ill crash into it. I speed up using the pedals with my feet not my hands, so speeding up allows me complete control of my car whilst still able to drive safely. Ergo, if someone tries to over take me I will make the situation less dangerous by speeding up and not letting them past me. This had led to some idiots not getting the point and refusing to give up, completely counter acting my good driving and forcing prolonged side by side driving, often with oncoming traffic. Idiots.

Lets all salute Captain Logic

If you maintain a constant speed, then the overtaking car will be able to get past. If a situation occurs that means the overtaking car might not make it in time, then accelerating is absolutely the worst thing you can do and only the worst kind of cretin would do this. Actually, that's not quite right, the absolute worst kind of cretin would do this and then try to justify it in the name of safety.

I'm not sure, but I think he was trying to be funny :p

He gotchya didn't he? Properly.

I used to do that in an old diesel escort I had in the early 90's.
Was the only way I could get past anyone :(

You had to know the road and plan your overtake minutes in advance.
Spiteful car!!
