How I kept calm I'm not sure...

Overtaking is not a chore...

I dislike overtaking. Being on the wrong side of the road makes me feel 'exposed'.

As such I'll always change down a gear and absolutely nail it to get it over and done with as quick as possible.

It depends what they're driving, if it's a baseball cap wearing teen in a Corsa/Saxo/Fiesta/Civic etc then yes I absolutely believe they have a point to prove. If it's a 'family' car or a car that I know is much more powerful then carry on.
Same on trackdays, I'll let everyone pass initially (as is often the rules) but then it's game on.
TW, if you're worried about me having a driving license then perhaps you'd sleep better at night if you revoked yours.

This post made me seriously crack up with laughter!

On a busy wriggly road it is, easier to just give up and cruise. Most people would consider a lot of day-to-day driving a chore - I accept you are probably not one of them.

I used to find it a chore when I drove the Civic but in the E46 Sport I don't really get phased by tedious traffic or anything any more. A comfortable car to drive and sit in makes all the difference.

That and a light clutch + fly by wire throttle (for when in traffic) :p

I always drive on the speed limit, if someone wants to be an idiot and overtake me because they have a point to prove I wrongfully get drawn in and will sometimes overtake again if the conditions are right. I don't do this all the time, it's literally once in a blue moon. Maybe I gave the wrong impression from my first post.

The mindset of thinking people in other cars have "a point to prove" suggests the chip on your shoulder is clouding your judgement when behind the wheel.

Thats true yes, it's rare that I encounter a situation where I need to overtake though, in the Monaro atleast. If I'm out in the Monaro then I'm out for a drive and tend to take routes with little to no traffic.

Overtaking is fairly stress-free in an automatic car with 515 ft-lbs. You can't really get caught out, either, unless the other person has something pretty hot.

I find I rarely overtake in the car, I very rarely stay behind someone on the bike, the sheer power and the size of the bike makes a big difference, I can guarantee unless you've got 400+bhp you won't out pull me when I'm overtaking, plus iI can nip back in, the car is big and bulbous.

And the safety of some motorcyclists overtaking is a whole other story. I swear, some have no regards for their own lives, let alone other road users. Please be aware, i am not tarring you all with the same brush, just that that i have witnessed!

It's a sad truth I'm afraid. :(
