How I kept calm I'm not sure...

Had this happen to me on Saturday when driving my wife's Cupra.

I was 'stuck' behind one of those hateful MINI Countryman Cooper things for about 10 miles along the A272. They insisted on pottering along at 45-50 on the NSL roads, and as soon as I had the chance to overtake (safely), I did. This was on the A272 going away from the Buckbarn crossroads (long straight). I booted it, caught up to find that they were trying their level best to pull away from me, at which point I was committed and the cars in the distance were getting closer. Luckily I managed to get past with no problem, but I was seething at the stupidity of the MINI driver.

I personally find my main headlights are suitable and no need to blast my high beams (on roads I know well, including country lanes).

So I'd rather have full concentration on control of the steering wheel rather than flicking the high beam stalk every 2 seconds.

Thanks
but high beams alow you to see further down the road at natinal speed limit speeds you don't want to drive short sighted.

i had that on the A272 too, not sure why, but if they want to do 45mph, why do they get the hump when i want to overtake and do 60?!

I've had this happen to me today from some red faced ( I quite literally mean that ) guy in a 318i.

The kick down sorted it with no drama at all.

I think I would have possibly overtaken earlier than you did, but then again I don't know the road or see it properly from that video.

I think the guy who doesn't use his main beams is a bigger idiot than the ctr driver lol

He wasn't ready to give it maximum beans 'cos his supercharger had not long since been installed and it hadn't been tuned optimally (although as long as he's running a bit rich, it would have been fine but alas that was 4 months ago now so irrelevant :D ) but if you know the road and are confident that you can get past without giving it 200% beans, it's often doable. Unless, of course, you're about to overtake the world's largest bell piece.

Edit: and I slightly revived this thread due to just seeing a link to it on Pistonheads. :)
