How I laughed

Shimmyhill, all of your points smack of inarticulate fanboy mouth-frothing. Short of some serious psychological trauma, I simply can't understand how you developed such antagonistic affront at the PC being even an equivalent gaming platform, let alone superior. It makes me think you were one of those Dreamcast quake 3 players that came off on the bad side of people cracking the .wad files to let PC gamers access DC online games.

No idea what your little rant was about, what i said was that the PC is a niche gaming platform and it is and consoles play a wider and more varied range of games than pc's and they do. Add the fact that consoles sell more games to more people and that makes consoles the better gaming system and the general public (or buyers of games) seem to agree as do developers who are moving away from pc games and who can blame them with the decline in sales.

I even said that for some games the pc has the better input system

I never played quake 3 on the DC, did on the pc but everyone knows UT was the better game !

The only way to compare GTAIV on PC to consoles would be if you ran at 1280x720 with low \ medium details and certain shadows disabled.

how many ex PC gamers have you got in here that now mainly console games ?

Its not as simple as that, many PC gamers simply cant be bothered spending £1000s of pounds continually upgrading their pc to console ports.

They are now leaving their PCs at the same spec, and mostly playing consoles instead. They still know how to set up a computer,as they've still get their old one !

Theres quite a few of us in this thread in exactly that situation (myself included, except i swapped my PC for a quadcore imac)

Sorry but it just isn't true that figure (£1000 constantly?) to play modern games at a much higher level than consoles on PC. You said earlier, 46" hdtv, how much are they?

Home cinema system? - Aren't these expensive too?

I have a 4850, it came with the £350 PC ocuk made, it still goes strong today 1 year later and it was around the time the 5000 series was coming out. Quad cores aren't even showing much benefit in games except GTA4... And there is plenty more games other than the big ones... The community is the same both ways, full of ***** ready to "pwn". But we all use the ocuk affiliates plus RL friends to play the games with, playing with randoms is crap.

Even before I got a 5770 I had plenty of fun on an 8400GS. I don't think upgrading is too costly. If it's what you want. Console games' prices generally tend to make me look for PC alternatives

Well that's just crap to be honest, only reason we're seeing publishers go to consoles because publishers realised they could scam the crap out of the console market. Making you all pay £40 release prices then releasing "extra content" which could have easily been in the game from the get go as "DLC". I remember when it used to be free on PC, no wait it still is, modding community... Oh and more sales does not equal better. Kotick (that his name?) wants to get every last penny from the console market because he has seen it can be exploited.

Edit - And also consoles don't play a wider range of games, PCs can do everything consoles do plus flight sims, spaces sims, RTSs, MMOs, Flash games, free indie games. It's much nicer to play a racing game on the PC with a wheel but that's just my opinion. You can use an xbox 360 pad on the PC too remember? Plus a USB joystick if you're hardcore...

Us lot who still love upgrading and spending £££ on our pc's love doing it because its fun!! When we do get these games we can play them in all the glory ^_^

Both sides have there winning and loosing arguments.

You can build a game to be much bigger and more awesome on a pc due to the higher performance etc.

Just the average person is more able to buy a console which is why companies go for a mass market where they will make the most money.

Its simple your average person cant go out and build a gaming pc to play these games in there full glory.

No they can, they just seem to think that it will cost them thousands when it really won't.

Not thousends but how often your average 15 - 20 yeard old have 400 to 600 pound to build a machine that will play the games they want in any meaningfull way?

Consoles are simple and easy for them and the majority of normal people who just want something simple.

Thats the market games developers are selling to as this is the fastest money maker.

I love pcs and everything i dont even have consoles. Im just saying this is the truth.

Id love them to make every gamer for pc's and then for consoles so we dont have to put up with terrible ports but they wont.

The average age group is usually 24-30 on consoles isn't it? Turbo guesstimation though.

I understand it will maximise their profits because gaming in my opinion isn't about gaming any more on consoles nor PC unless its indy developers. It's about maximising profits... It's the same ol' guff we usally see nowadays. Atleast PS2 and behind had people pushing the boat a little with artistic direction and story and also game play. Now too many developers are scared because of the costs... I'm just bitter and don't like where the production of games is heading.

I use to PC game all the time and still do a lot but tbh console gaming has come a long way and the online features and services as well as the games means consoles have over taken the PC as the gaming platform. Even the graphics in games like Uncharted 1 & 2 are better than anything I've seen on PC and once I got use to the pads I actually started preferring them, I prefer a pad for FPS now. A lot of the hardcore PC gamers I believe simply haven't played enough on a console to see the change and just maintain this primitive view that consoles suck.
