I am really surprised there isn't already a thread about this show. I started watching from the beginning but was openminded as it was touted as the new "Friends" and I have really enjoyed it throughout the seasons. Yes there is silliness but also some really great writing and comedy.

Soooo the latest episode was fantastic. Utterly brilliant and 2 scenes towards the end actually had my eyes a bit wet. The "Song" Scene was utterly adorable...

Anyway, anyone else watch it...

Its... Legend.........................................Wait for it..............................................................................ary!

I loved the 1st few seasons so much,, gone a bit down hill since but still better than most shows.
I am in 2 minds on wether or not I want the How I Met Your Father to go ahead.

LOL Have you not seen the latest ep? They have played on that and its called "How your mother met me" And its probably one of the best eps of the entire show.. Think "Hush" or "The Body" From Buffy ;)

I, ahem, acquired Mondays episode but I've totally forgotten to watch it.

Overall it's been a great series but it's now starting to lose it's edge for me and I'll be happy when it's done. I'd rather it finished before it got crap.

It has given us one of TV's great characters in Barney Stintson.

You mean one of the most overused characters ever, he was excellent and a breath of fresh air in the first seasons but after that was just annoying.

I feel the series has gone downhill sharply from 2 seasons ago, I've given up on it completely now

No, I mean one of the great TV characters. I thought it was obvious what I meant from the words I used.

Yeah I saw the latest. Was best of season but I preferred the group dynamic before Barney and Robin were together. The adventures and hi jinx were much better.

It has steadily gone downhill over the past few seasons but is still worth the watch, it has run its course now and in a way I am glad is finishing this year.

So far it looks like there might actually be "How I met your father" spin off next year, which, judging purely by the female characters used in "How Your Mother Met Me" episode would be very short lived. But the scripts are being written and talks are being held.

It definitely suffers from season fatigue at the moment, feels like all the cast just cannot wait for the end, but it's been one of the best comedies of the last decade. I think the only thing that stopped the show becoming next "Friends" and international sensation was just a few missed opportunities and badly casted roles. Marshall is weighting them down like a bag of bricks for starters. And is it me or is HIMYM rather ethnically firewalled for a modern show?

I started watching it last November or so. IMO it is a LOT better than BBT, which started getting stale the moment Amy and Bernadette became part of the main cast.

Whilst HIMYM has gone downhill a bit, it was expected at some point and still manages to be fresh and enjoyable every episode. Prior to watching the show I never understood why Barney had such a huge fanbase - now I do.

I also hope the show ends quickly now. You can only go so far and the cast must be exhausted.

I only watch a few TV shows and HIMYM is one of them - yes it has quite a few poor episodes and fillers (the recent rhyming was clever, but dragged!) but there have also been some very good episodes and Barney is awesome.

One of the other shows i watch is Modern Family - i cannot rate this show highly enough yet people at my work and the other half's work are not aware of it - they are really missing out!!

The wife watches this show and by proxy I have now seen a few episodes to get the cast setup. It is quite funny but most of your comments are exactly what I was thinking, in general most successful shows get dragged out longer than necessary.

Sometimes it's cringeworthy, but most of the time it's pretty funny :)
The biggest let down the show has is the acting - the hot ginger from Buffy is a terrible actress - but Doogie Hawser is well-(over)-played.

That's interesting.. Especially if that HOT HOT HOT Redhead is in it that is friends with the mother.. :D

I find it a bit creepy Ted is basically telling his kids about all the shags he had before meeting their mum.

I still watch this, having caught up about 2 years ago.
I can't put my finger on it, but I don't think it really reaches the same levels as friends, it doesn't seem to flow the same, feels too forced to me.

With the last episode, I kinda see Ted as being the one the mother settled for, given seemingly her real love passed away.

Don't like how they were bringing characters back and forth like a yoyo either (Victoria?)
Barney went from being one way in a season, to engaged, to breaking up, to engaged to Robin... Didn't like that either.

Struggled to get through some of the last few seasons; a couple of gems. Still need to catch up on most of season 9.

I'm completely up to date with it. I thought it was quite smart reverting to 'how your mother met me'.

Also after seeing Marshall become more and more neutered over the years it was nice to see him finally grow back some balls and stick it to his controlling selfish wife.

Also, even though her teeth are too big or her mouth is too small, Ted's wife is still quite hot!
