With console piracy becoming more and more common, how long before the devs/publishers take action?

You dont even need to buy a 360 game to play it online, at least with PC's, you mostly need a valid serial to play on official servers.

I think its a possibility in the future, however currently the profit margins are still quite high. If piracy starts to severely affect the money then you can bet they'll start looking into options to combat it.

Pro Evo 2008 on the PS3 already has something like this in place doesnt it? In that if your copy has been played online on a different PS3 it cant go online on any other PS3.

I personally wouldnt like to see this as picking up game pre-owned/trading them in is a massive help in playing more games.

Let's not forget for every person who plays pirated games on Xbox Live they also pay the annual subscription fee. So Microsoft don't lose out completely.

True but Microsoft rely on strong developer support. Doubt they would have that if a console was ever rampant with piracy and even more so they were seen to encourage it (by doing nothing).

if they brought it in there'd be uproar on this forum

im assuming all the people who moan about having to install games would moan about putting in a serial number too

serials would just hurt multiplayer gaming, Im not sure how effective it would be to combat piracy. Its not like PC piracy was killed by it. I dont think they would add it into consoles.

PS3 is only really safe from piracy because of the Blu-Ray format which prohibits making cheap copies.

The same could have been said when the PS2 came out originally and the DVDs were a new format. I'm sure soon enough when Blu-Ray-Rs are cheaper piracy on the PS3 will be more common.

In the grand scheme of things its not imo

Much harder then back in the day

Is it? I think the 360 is hit and miss and lots of people that play online worry about the protections that might be in place that get them banned.

But nintendo, wow i'm amazed at how many people I know with a modded wii or DS. I didnt even know about the wii til I went into work and saw a dvd spool with about 80-100 ripped games on it.

My whole workplace has a dodgy wii. With next to none of them bothered about online play I'm blown away that I'm the only person I know without a dodgy wii. Friends and work collegues have all got them done. Is that why the attach rate is so poor on the wii?

Then the DS, so easy that it's almost a crime to buy a game.
