how long can you go without a drink for (non alcahol related)

I know a lot of people doing 'Dry July' for charity.

They are all saying how their partners have found them more grouchy but all say they sleep a lot better.

One buy bought a pass to have a drink on Friday (you can buy passes, it all goes to charity) and he was smashed after a few drinks as it had been over 3 weeks without a drop.

To truly go without water you would also have to go without food.

After about 3 days you will begin to suffer serious dehydration, tiredness, headaches and confusion, along with vomiting and elevated heart-rate. After 5-7 days you will suffer from hallucinations, broken skin, lesions, increased vomiting and the inability to absorb water even if you had any due to changes in your body chemistry.

A lot depends on the ambient conditions, your general build, health and age.

The answer is you can survive for between 12 hours and 12 days without water depending upon those conditions.

Do not do something as stupid as testing the concept either, by the time you realise that you are in a state of serious dehydration you may well find yourself unable to remedy the situation due to any number of the above mentioned complications.

I don't know how much is poetic licence but it is quite awesome that Chris Ryan managed a 10 day E&E. Superhuman almost.
