As you can tell from the numerous PC buidl threads i have done today, I am extremly excited about the PC im going to build. Its going to be my first EVER PC build and i always wanted to build one infact iv been trying to build one early 2009......

Anyway guys, how long did it take you to build your first PC from unboxing the parts until all the software was installed (OS anti virus). Then compare that time to the most recent build you have done.

Since iv watched a 1000 videos on so many products (believe me id spend all day just looking up pc parts) i think i can do it in under 3 hours. Iv watched so many tutorials, it is if i have already built PC before hand lol :P

it'd probably take me a total of 25 hours and then go bang when i switched it on.

that's why i have never attempted it.

Plan for it taking all day for your first build. There are some fiddly bits and to be honest fitting the CPU cooler still freaks me out a little.

First build took an entire day. Maybe 10-12 hours work. There was some case modding involved and repainting stuff which took time to dry.

Most recent build...... maybe 1 hour to get the hardware together, another 1-2 hours to install software, and then another couple of hours to sort out the watercooling.

Plus 24 hours leak testing, and 24 hours of overclock stability testing. :p

my first one was in 1993 and it took several days to get up and running. Pre internet and plug and play

my quickest was about 45 minutes for hardware alone.

for your first just take your time, plenty of breaks, plan each step.

COme on guys, I really want the pc to e built so i can fire up BF3, Im so excited for it i already bought the premuim edition to it...., however I know that i can game anytime i want i cant build a PC everyday so might just take my time and just take all of it in..

On the plus side does anyone like that new PC component smell? am i the only one?

1st build, P4 2.8GHz hyperthreaded, in a Shuttle case. From unboxing to building to first POST checks took about 2 hours. First POST went fine, so it was time to install OS + drivers + software which took another 2 hours. This was in January 2004.

2nd build, Pentium D 3.4GHz, again in a Shuttle case. Project never got completed because the CPU was incorrect for the motherboard even though I posted a spec-check prior to the order. This was in September 2006. Had to change the motherboard and get a normal ATX case to finish this one off.

3rd build, Q9500 in an Antec Skeleton, took about 2 hours again for the build and 2 hours for the software install. This was in July 2009. Was short-lived, as a house fire gutted out some of my downstairs in November 2009.

4th build, I cheated and went for one of OcUK's own pre-built Shuttles as I needed a machine quickly in the wake of the fire.

These days its over in a flash, OS installs are seriously quick compared to days gone by. But back then i could have everything out, in and re-installed (I consider that to be OS, updates anti-v all drivers) in a matter of a few hours OS side being a good half.

Hardware was something I got into aged about 12, a few years later I was building for friends and family, and being so anal about my own stuff that grew and made worse by the internet into my late teens that I now no longer give two ****s about computers.

Hooray!

Couple of hours with the old ocuk build guide up on my old pc. Was pretty much ******** myself the entire time and then almost fainted with joy when it booted first time.

If you really wanna savour the experience, start a thread in the project logs section and you can then put it together piece by piece with an audience!

First one took around ten hours. It was a slow and methodical build. I even made a checklist beforehand. Just take your time and you’ll be fine.

Cable management for me never exceeded anything more than a quick think beforehand, and perhaps 10 or 15 minutes of faffing about.

Anything else is just gay.
