How long do you keep your cpus for?

My trusty old P4 3Ghz with HT tech is still purring away quite happily. I've been tempted by the AMD X2. I've had my finger on the "buy now" button with the Conroes, but managed to hold out.

I'm doing a total upgrade with Kentsfield, DX10 etc etc next year
 
Usually when i can no longer play a game on high detail ill consider a CPU/ GPU upgrade.

Next one will be a killer as im still on SKT 939

but on average i gues its working out at about every 18-24 months.

my last big upgrade was last novenmber 3700sd and a 7800gtx.

so by my reasoning ill prolly be moving over q2 next year to 2nd gen dx10 stuff and whatever the mid range CPU is then ?? top of the current range Conroe probably.
