How long do you store text messages for before deleting?

I was looking at my phone just now and I realised that I rarely delete any of my text messages. The messages date back by more than 2 years because anytime I change phones, I always transfer everything. So I just want to know what the norm is.

With modern phones is there actually any need to do so? Having had iphones for the past 18 months i haven't deleted any and don't think i ever would, I remember having a crappy old sagem that could only hold 50 messages, i was forever having to clear them.

When I get a new phone, it is reset. Never transfer anything from phone to phone bar contacts. And sometimes stuff in the calender. Never deleted any apart from wiping the memory.

Yes, it'll speed your phone up quite a bit apparently.

My desire HD routinely decides to delete every one of my messages without any warning.

one minute they are all there, next minute nothing.

its happened 3 times now and its a bit of a joke tbh

I have them from 30/06/2009. The day I got my iPhone. Don't know why I don't delete.

Funny to look back on them one day I guess.

I only keep my texts for reference but I never really see the need to keep them after a period of more than a few days. They just sit there normally till I do a phone reset / Rom swap, which I always nuke the lot anyway. :p

Delete after each thread reaches 200. Default android setting. Used to have it on unlimited but it became laggy. I send about 3,000 texts a month :o

Whenever my desire feels like it. usually after an attempted update it wipes them other :S Otherwise I like to keep them to look back at if needed.

I use the standard android message settings - maximum text thread size is 200 and messages older than that just get deleted automatically.

that said, i've been putting new firmware on my phone so often recently that it's not had a chance to take affect for quite some time :D

I don't unless my phone decides to delete them all likes it's done a few times recently. :(

I dont delete any unless its rubbish or from people i dont really want to talk to....mind you i dont use text messaging all that much as i have a Blackberry so most of my friends, colleagues etc are on it...with my iphone4 i use whatsapp so again most of iphag mates are on there...hardly ever use text messaging in all honesty.
