How long does it take you to build your PC?

If you build your PCs in under an hour then you have yet to realize the full experience of building PCs.

The feeling, the environment, the ambiance, the smell of new. I love building PCs, it's something you should do with love and care, individually caressing each and every component before firmly but gently sliding them into their perfectly fitting slots..

Okay I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

10 mins for a full build seems pretty swift. I guess if I've only got 1 HDD, 1 optical and not too many fans to worry about I can probably do it in 30 mins or so. If it's a 2nd hand cpu/heatsink then cleaning the old thermal paste and applying the new stuff usually adds a few minutes.

Of course I have I mean I am only 44 years old & built a bazillion systems what do I know.

The fun & skill is actually in the setting up/Tweaking & clocking.
 
About an hour to build it

Then obviously the install and overclocking after varies, cant really put a time on that can you. Especially if you have a crappy stepping, as it can take ages to find the sweet spot
 
I usually take about 1 and half hours to do a build and cable management + OS install. My I5 took a bit longer as I was 20 mins on working out how to put the holding bracket for the Arctic cooler Rev 2 on the Mobo as I have never done a retention bracket before for a CPU cooler through building AMD systems (this was my first intel build).
 
PC building is neverending, however just to build my pc with what i first had took me around.... 30mins, and that was the first time i built my own pc, after seeing someone else build there own
 
1st build took a couple of hours, rebuild took about 3/4hour.
But routing cables and making it look tidy can take me a couple of hours, as i'll have an idea then try it, find it doesn't work then start again

10 minutes is hard but 15 is do-able if I have all of the parts unpacked and ready to go, and without any special settings.

I also forgot the dreaded front panel headers which sometimes turn out to be a pain, but this was more the case on older cases/mobos than new stuff.

I know, it's not like it's important to get things right first time and avoid problems further down the line or anything. :D

1. Screw in power supply - 2 minutes
2. Attached CPU & cooler to motherboard - 3 minutes
3. Screw in motherboard - 2 minutes
4. Screw in drives (hdd, optical) - 3 minutes
5. Slot in graphics card - < 1 minute
6. Slot in ram - < 1 minute
5. Plug power cables to mobo, drives and gpu - 1-2 minutes
6. Plug in sata cables - 1 minute
7. Plug in any fans - 1 minute
+ Windows 7 installation - 20 minutes
Done.

And that's with decent cable management. With ultra care taken, cables tied to case, folded and stuck down etc, maybe 30-40 minutes build + 20 minutes for Windows 7.

God you're slow, I can have one together in around 8 mins, with <10 mins for win 7 installation. :D
 
Dosent take long for me.

CPU, HSF and RAM are all fitted before the mobo is screwed into the case.

I could do a complete build in 45 mins but software configuring and stuff can take hours

Ok, two PCs built. Time to build the first one was forty something minutes as I was in a rush to leave and wanted to get everything put together (pre OS). Worked on first try. :)

Second PC took maybe 30 minutes to build... but(!) this was over a period of perhaps 3-4 hours as there were lots of distractions. Cake and tea time, helping the misses install windows 7 and so on.

Also, these times do not include taking apart the old builds (re-used cases and some parts), vacuuming the cases and cleaning case fans, washing desktops and laying neat cabling in runners (or wathever it's called) along the wall (no dust-trap cabling on the floor, hurray).

Neither does it include cleaning and packaging old parts (cpus, ram, coolers, motherboards, etc.) in appropriate boxes and anti-static wrapping for potential resale.

Installing Windows 7 was probably < 20 minutes, but then installing open office, thunderbird, paint.net, firefox, etc. etc., getting latest drivers and tweaking everything took hours. But I enjoyed it with my second helping of tea and homemade chocolate cake. :)
