How long does it take you to build your PC?

Took me a few hours this evening changing a psu, swapped out a non modular thermaltake toughpower 750w for a corsair hx850, those flat corsair cables are a bit akward to route.

How does it take you lot over an hour
We are talking around 10 items that are All made to fit each other & are all colour coded, My Grandson could do it in less than an hour.

You know, rarely do I read a post of yours and think "wow, he really contributed to this, and did it without insulting anyone!".

(I'm fully aware of the irony of this post)

My first ever build took about 8-9 hours of head scratching, swearing and general misery.
Second current build took about an hour and half and was a delightful breeze lol

If I was you I would make sure of the facts before posting such Tripe.

Every time you employ capitalisation for Effect I wince.

Oooooo The Ironing.

You Must Be Constantly Wincing Then, Un Luckkkkkkkkky Mate. :p:p:p
I am Also Real Glad that I have a Physical effect on you. :D

With my latest build it took me about an hour to put it together and to check it booted. The real work is the cable mangement that took me about 2 hours. Then installing windows and overclocking another hour.

Took me around 5 hours at first due to various problems. Next few times a couple of hours. Now I can throw one together within 10-15 minutes? It's really quick if you have everything in front of you :\

1. Screw in power supply - 2 minutes
2. Attached CPU & cooler to motherboard - 3 minutes
3. Screw in motherboard - 2 minutes
4. Screw in drives (hdd, optical) - 3 minutes
5. Slot in graphics card - < 1 minute
6. Slot in ram - < 1 minute
5. Plug power cables to mobo, drives and gpu - 1-2 minutes
6. Plug in sata cables - 1 minute
7. Plug in any fans - 1 minute
+ Windows 7 installation - 20 minutes
Done.

And that's with decent cable management. With ultra care taken, cables tied to case, folded and stuck down etc, maybe 30-40 minutes build + 20 minutes for Windows 7.

About 10 minutes to do a slap together to get it working and install os then when i know everything works about 30minutes to an hour to do cable management and bits that need attention

after that weeks of overclocking till i'm happy it's stable

It used to take longer, when you had to set all the jumpers on the mobo :p

Most elements are easy to put together, then there are things like deciding on a way to apply the thermal paste...and there goes the time.

Then there is the fun elements...the faceplate doesn't go in...the mobo plate gets jammed when your trying to install it...the holes don't line up so you cant get a screw in...you drop the screw...you drop the screw again...that cable isn't long enough...a mobo connection is different to the ones on your case...:D

I enjoy my builds so i like to take my time over it.

If i rush and get it done in an evening then i feel i need to buy something else and fiddle again!

Building your own PC should be very satisfying, so drag it out a bit!

As for installing the OS outside the case, if you've got new components then you can test them before you fit them.

5 hours Tuesday:
Removed all parts from old case, 10 minutes
Cleaned dust etc from parts, 10 minutes
Installed extra case fan in new case, 5 minutes
Mounted new CPU heatsink and fan, 10 minutes
Installed parts in new case, 20 minutes
Cable management.... the rest.. :(

Last night an extra hour to remount the CPU heatsink and move some cables that had been bugging me since Tuesday, even though I couldn't see them as it's a closed case

So to summarize it seems around two or three hours is pretty common, but some can do it significantly faster while others really enjoy taking their time and take considerably longer. Those doing it for the first time take slightly longer, but not by much which suggests that the process is fairly easy to learn (something I can reassure my sister with as she is pondering whether to try to build one or just get a ready-built one).

Also some fairly different approaches. Some double checking everything and getting the cabling perfect on the first pass, others throwing it together and then sorting out the carnage later. Some even installing the OS before installing it in the case.

Finally it's nice to hear that it's not just me who drops screws and bleeds all over the place (exaggeration for dramatic effect).

Call it half a day normally.

That includes unwrapping and putting everything together and then installing the OS.

Could I do it faster .... yes ... do I see any point in rushing it .... no
