how long for dell laptop to arrive from date of order?

No I don't work from DELL, I've just had a couple of laptops ordered from them recently so am quite familiar with the various lead times.

I personally don't think 1-2 weeks is a problem when the laptops are built to order, of course you need to go in a queue as you do with anything that is built to order.

Contrast that with ordering a new car just now - Volkswagen, Audi etc have lead times of 4-6 months!

EDIT: From my experience, if you order an i7 XPS Studio you'll be waiting quite a long time, however an i7 Studio 15 you won't need to wait long.

My order yesterday was showing as "Work in progress", now its saying "In Production"

Is this a good thing ? The next step is delivery so hey you never know i could get it next week :p
 
Sam - my order status went something like this (for a Studio 15)

Thursday night - placed order
Friday - processing / work in progress
Sat / Sun - In Productions
Mon - Shipped

Got the call yesterday (Thursday) to say it would be delivered on Monday, so in total, 10 days from ordering.
 
Oh i may be lucky then i didnt order the 16' lcd so perhaps thats whats holding others orders up

Just ordered the i7 dell stuido 17 base model yesterday,
Estimated delivery date is 4/1/2010 !!!!
Theres no way im waiting that long, do you think the date theyve given me will change since ive only ordere the base model? or should i call them up?
 
Who knows mate - check forum.notebookreview.com in the relevant Dell sections and see if the wait is common or unusual.

what was your first estimated delivery date you got from dell?
 
usually takes about 3-4 weeks. i always seem to get mine before the estimated date

It was supposedly shipped on the 28th

I think it took a couple of days for me from what I remember mate.
 
my order is with the courier. thank god. have to say, the email to the directors worked as they called me yesterday to say its been shipped. now i await my goodwill 8% refund!
 
My order has been shipped and its now letting me track it. Got to wait up to another 24 hours to get my delivery date but it says 4 days from the day shipped and that was the 28th so i should imagine thursday / friday

What happened with mine was that it said

23/11/09 16:30 CHINA DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY

then

26/11/09 10:50 CALL LOCK OUT.

When you see Call Lock Out it means you'll get an automated call (within 3-4 hours of the time 10:50) to arrange a delivery date. I got the call on a Thursday and the first date available for delivery was the Monday.
