How long till Quad Core

Hard to say some sites are reporting Quadcores coming from Intel as early as November/December... AMDs is December but as usual its nothing set in stone...

Dual core will be more then enough for now especially a conroe.

Will current mobos support quad core or is it all down to the OS? I.e. will Intel quad cores use Skt775 and DDR2??

What I've noticed is that most of the 975x mobos appear to advertise quad core support, not too sure about 965 (anyone?)

Edit: just had a look, the Gigabyte DQ6 has the 965 chipset and boasts quad core support so that answers my question I guess

Summing those up;

"November brings the official launch of Intel’s quad-core processors....Kentsfield based quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme will launch with a single QX6700 model. The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 is expected to launch at 2.66 GHz and target entry-level workstation and enthusiast markets."

"January brings plenty of launches. On the desktop side of things Intel will introduce four new processors. Two new Core 2 architecture processors will arrive in the form of the Kentsfield Core 2 Quadro Q6600 and Core 2 Duo E4300. The Kentsfield Core 2 Quadro Q6600 will be clocked at 2.4 GHz while the E4300 will be clocked at 1.8 GHz. Intel’s Core 2 Duo E4300 is based on Conroe with 2MB of L2 cache and an 800 MHz front-side bus."

Yup, so QX6700 Extreme Edition in November, lower models in January (allows them to increase profits by making you fork out for extreme edition/extreme price, just like they made X6800 available before the E66xx series)

I really don't know what to do :( , I've already taken pictures of my X6800 ready for the bay, I don't like the fact that the QX6700 Extreme Edition only clocks in @ 2.66, although watching this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DetnKgOxrSI from the PC Games thread is making me think it's better to go with quad.

Gibbo - As soon as you know any info about QX6700 Extreme Edition's can you let us know please :)

I look at different threads on the conroe and made my mind up to buy a e6300 then I decided a E6600 now i'm not sure what to do wait till january, I just wish I knew what to do, new m/b and e 6600 now would that be rite or wait :confused: Some body tell me what to do please...

Wayne... :confused:
