How long will I get away with this I wonder?

Stuck some black/silver numberplates on my CTR, figured I'd see what sort of response I got from the local Plod...

(excuse the crappy cameraphone pics, it was dark)

I think it suits the colour of the car quite nicely and I've kept the font & spacing of the letters "legal" (for what it's worth - probably nothing).

Thoughts?

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, in case it wasn't obvious I've blanked out 2 letters for privacy sake. :)

Exhaust isn't TODA, it's a J's Racing 60RS (titanium) - easy mistake to make though as the tailpipes look very similar. Grill is indeed Mugen, and the headlights are OEM (although getting xenons fitted this week).

I just figured I would see what they looked like on the car really, I'm expecting to get pulled sooner or later. Whether or not I can talk myself out of a ticket when this happens is another matter. :)

I've seen another car locally (light grey Vectra) with black/silver plates, the guy said he'd had them on for 2 weeks and hadn't been pulled. He even asked if I was an undercover cop when I rushed out of B&Q to ask him about them. :D

Wiltshire Police being what it is I could quite easily get away with them for several weeks due to not seeing a Police car, or them not being in a position where they can easily turn around, or I could end up with one behind me tomorrow on the way into work - such is luck. As "crimes" go though I don't think it's particularly bad, though I'm well aware of the likelihood of getting a FPN and I won't protest too much about it :)

Actually that's made me think. My car has a black/white theme going on, I reckon a white on black rear plate would look awesome on mine.

Hmmm.......
I'd say you were more likely to get away with a non-standard front plate, mainly because a copper would have to be able to turn around after coming towards you to stop you, whereas if they happen to be behind you, or be able to overtake traffic to get behind you, you're buggered.

Good idea, I could change my brake lights to white as well to continue the theme!

It's only a bit of fun really - I'm well aware of the Law and likely punishment, when I finally do get a £30 FPN I'll remove the plates and go back to being an anonymous conformist so you can sleep easy at night.

Looks rubbish im afraid.

So you know you will "probably" get stopped by the police but you still do it ? You must have more money than sense..
Well I'll take them off after I get a fixed penalty notice, it's not like I'm going to keep them on in defiance getting fine after fine. I'm more curious than anything to see how long I can get away with it for, and I like the look enough to give it a try. :)

Cheers for all the feedback. No problems driving into work today, drove past a Police van without any issue (although he wasn't in a position to be able to turn around even if he wanted to).

Had a conversation with a mate last night who lives in the heart of London and he said "ironically you'd probably get away with it here, but not in the sticks" - I guess the logic being the Met have better things to do. Knowing Wilts Police they'll probably scramble the helicopter & spike strips when a panda car spots me, might even make the local paper. :p

It's a fair point that the fine is probably the same for not displaying any plates at all, but I would presume this would be looked upon more dimly as I could easily just drive past speed cameras with impunity with no plates - whereas the ones I have, albeit not legal, are not misspaced or otherwise illegible. They should still be readable by ANPR.

The above is largely irrelevant though as it will come down to how bad a day the cop who does eventually pull me over is having, as others have mentioned already.

It's a moderately interesting experiment anyway as far as I'm concerned, and one which doesn't really harm anyone. It's not like I'm trying to evade any kind of justice or speeding past schools, etc.

Dunno about the points, I assumed it was non-endorseable.

Anyway, the answer to the original question is - possibly less than a day! Was told when I drove into work this morning that a cop was writing down my numberplate yesterday. :o

Well, over one month on and I haven't even been pulled much less fined and there have been a few opportunities where they could definitely get behind me if they wanted to. I guess either they're not sure themselves if it's legal or not at first glance, or they don't care *shrug*

Drove into work this morning and there were 2 female special constables parked next to me, they didn't say or do anything :D

Oh really?

They look gash.

Silver on black only works when they are proper fully-embossed plates or even better, if the letters are riveted-on.

Cheers for the info, didn't realise there was an officially "right" way to do it.

I'll have to remember that when I get my tyres changed so I remember to buy the wrong width ones so they look stretched, and then lowering it so the chassis is scraping along the road.

Opinions are like *holes......

Have you considered adding a GTR badge?

No need, I've already previously owned 2 of the real thing.

With all due respect I don't mind people taking issue with how they look, everyone is entitled to an opinion. That said if I were in a similar position to you (i.e. openly talking about how Euro-look cars with the "wrong" tyres, etc are the greatest thing since sliced bread) I probably wouldn't be so outspoken about it, especially after the negative feedback you got in that thread.

Or maybe that's why you're being so outspoken in mine? Either way I would think of all people someone like you - liking something "different" - wouldn't be so narrow-minded to assume that everyone likes the same thing.
