How long will this journey take?

I would head up the A34 early enough before it gets busy and back down the M40.

But only if going the night before wasn't an option.

Jesus, I wouldn’t fancy that drive. Would much rather take the one train into Victoria and then the Victoria line straight to Blackhorse road station. It’s a 2 minutes walk from there.

Go Anticlockwise.

To clear that journey I would leave Portsmouth at 0500 maybe 0530 latest.

Morning rush hour that could easily be 4-5 hour journey if you hit the commuter belt + M25 etc post 6/630am.

How very odd we all read it as Walthamstow to Portsmouth, which is incorrect.

In that case there's no excuse not to get a train. 1hr40 to Waterloo, another 45mins on the tube and you're there. Driving into/across London is a foolish endeavour.

In what way is he not already going clockwise?

Have a look at his route, he is currently planning to go ANTI-clockwise.

Unless I have been wrong all these years I am sure I am right about this.......

-edit....Yeah I am right, but I misinterpreted his start and end locations incorrectly.

His route is going Clockwise?! anti clockwise he would be heading over the Dartford crossing (assuming hes starting destination is Portsmouth)

Agreed. Hence the edit addition. I had his start and end positions the wrong way around.
