How loud is your PS3?

Hi,
I got a PS3 yesterday, and while its wonderfully quiet compared to my PC and any 360 ive seen, im wondering if the noise its putting out is 'wrong'.
Reason i ask is that most fans in systems are a relativly constant 'wirr'. But the one in my PS3, is constant, it just doesnt sound like a wirr. If it was a PC fan i'd say it had something stuck in it.
The thing doesnt seem to overheat, and ive never heard it spin up, and it was on for 10hours+ yesterday!.
Im wondering if the odd sound is caused by the HDD sound over the fan sound?

Thoughts?

You sure it's not a disc in the drive? :p

That's the loudest thing on my PS3 when I first switch it on.
 
When it turns on do you hear a *whoosh* noise ? thats the fan spinning up and then down again, if it does that then I wouldn't worry about it.
 
They are quiet to really quiet.

I have a launch 60gig USA and the fan noise starts to become audible after around 20mins, including watching a bluray...

I also have a 2nd 40gig USA model, and this thing is silent almost all of the time. Never hear anything unless you got your ear to it. The other day I left GTA IV running for about an hr and all of a sudden a noisy'ish fan kicked in but outside of this I'd say the unit was 'almost' silent.. Certainly not enough noise to even raise a minor concern.

Your PS3 isn't broken it's just properely engineered.

My 360 on the otherhand is like a freight train running through the room. (DVD Spin noise) Such a shame cos its got some good games for it..

He never asked for your opinions on Xbox360's, though it's not surprising that you're all too willing to give your opinion.
 
UK release day 60GB model here and its whisper quiet playing BR or a game (with low volume and ambient noise)

Admittedly for the first 20 seconds while starting up its "noisy" but still quiter than most pc's Ive ever had

Possibly about to buy a 2nd 40GB model for my bedroom, so will be able to compare to the really noisy systems very easily :D
 
I wasnt aware my PS3 made any noise....

But I do have it connected via optical to 1000w of 5.1 surround so I cant hear very much when playing it.

oh god, show off alert. dont worry, mines bigger than yours, but i dont ALWAYS have it sitting at reference level:o


the latest firmware seems to have made mine run louder when watching dvd's. and it does got bloody warm and audible playing gta. still, ive not had any problems with it so far:)
