How many 3rd years and starting to panic...?

What is your piece on Digitalle? :)

‘Glass and Architecture: a study in the advancement of glazing technologies and the resulting impact on design’

Its more of a engineering report than your usual Architecture dissertation...the reason being I have a STRONG dislike to quotes and other peoples opinions :) this way I just need to stuff it full of technical data and statistics and then at the end sum up why glass is good.

simples :D

Nah stress is when 3 weeks before the deadline your tutor decides he wants to turn a purely command line theoretical AI program into one that is a fully multi platform GUI version  Cue learning GTK+ for C++ in two days straight and then working like a demon perfecting it and then writing it all up to get it all in. I had to submit 10k words by xmas and then 30k words (not inc code by the start of April).

Despite working like mad for months, after three days without sleep I started hallucinating a touch..... Pink and green clouds/blobs started floating past the window. Got it all done and I am really proud of it all, got something like 92% for it as I ran out of time to expand it again and have it running connect 4.

In short, start beavering away now OP, if you want the marks then you will still have stuff to do as deadline day looms. Good luck.

I was going to say that sounds rather techincal opposed to the more popular Architecture theories that are such rated subject matters of recent; you're certainly not going to get any medal nominations with such a topic, but hopefully you might be able to produce something that you can use with some practicality over coming years/projects.

I'm not sure your content format but I would suggest considering Niall McLaughlin Architects' Ballsbridge House with theoretical links to Craig Ellwood and Mies van der Rohe might help with some of the analytical tick boxes :)

I have 3 massive essays to do this year and 2 massive projects (one of which is a restaurant under a waterfall :) )and yet Bad Company 2 is so much fun :(

7000 words isn't a lot really?

saying that im struggling to write my personal statement... boring as hell, 500 words so far

i pitty people writing books about themselves... regurgitating rubbish that has already happened, i cant even tell a joke twice without boring myself :(

i've probably done in reality about 2 weeks worth of work for it.

mine doesn't have to be in until after easter (bonus) so gonna get all the research/drafts done before march, then write it up in easter.

still, feeling the pressure even though i have a semi-plan...

Finished my dissertation last Wednesday :) Took me all of about 3 days work. I reckon it's worth about 65% which I think I'll be happy with and will assure me of my 2:1. Here's hoping anyway.

Just reading this thread makes me nervous, and I finished my degree 18 months ago :p There's no need to panic though, usually by the time you're writing your dissertaion, there's little you can do to change your final grade, 75% of your grades have already been collected.

Currently finishing my second year but im thinking about it and can see myself this time next year in a panic over it

Thanks for the advice, always welcome. I'm well aware its not most authentic Architectural dissertation subject, but I think I bring a little of my own unique style to it. My opinion is, as important as it is to our final grading, we're taught to take our learnings and our inspirations and communicate them through our drawings and our designs, not in an 8000 word piece of text.

Therefore, after experiencing possibly the most difficult year of my life last year trying to battle the recession and find a part 1 placement, I felt it beneficial to do something that would stand me in good stead when I go out again for my part 2, thus my decision to specialise in one area of modern design. Although very interesting and I'm sure a lot can be learned other topics, I just couldn't see how, for example, 'Architecture and Power: The workings of Albert Speer and his relationship with the Nazi regime' would help me in ANYWAY when say designing a new primary school in Kilmarnock?

I could have chosen many materials tbh, but i found Glass and its impact on design to be the most fascinating. Looking over the last 20-30 years there is a clear relationship between way it has been implemented in Architecture and the state of the art manufacturing techniques of the time.

I have referenced van der Rohes Seagram building a few times, but I dont think im that familiar with the Ballsbridge House, although Niall McLaughlin Architects rings a bell or two: I'll have a gander tomorrow.
