Just doing a clean up on my PC. Mine's 4.78GB. This install is from summer 2004.. is there anything I can do to reduce the size of this folder or is this normal size for XP??

A lot of this will be from uninstall information for various updates and patches, I think they can be safely deleted, I'm sure some will tell me if I'm wrong. :)

2.63GB 2 years 3 months.

Just FYI System Restore uses a hidden folder in root of the drive.

Deleting $*.* frees up all of 7KB.

erm no it doesn't. Several hundred megabytes, it's the old update files. You need to show hiddren directories, and they're in blue.

Also if you have used a service pack you can delete \Windows\Servicepackfiles. Or move them elseware/burn onto CDRW in case you need them.
