how many of you out there still use a CRT?

I would personally never go back to using CRT. They are simply too heavy and cumbersome.

LCD's has come a long long way since 8-9 years ago. Not only has the prices come down, the quality has improved immensely.

It's easy to get caught in the negativity that surrounds the flat panels, but it is true that you will never know until you've tried. This is a classic example that's similar to people still running windows xp and refusing upgrade.

I have been loyal to XP, but started having issues with compatibility with later hardwares. Namely itunes cut off support for xp users, so I had no choice but to upgrade to Windows 7 in order for my iphone and ipod to work!

Just accept the fact the the time has changed and so too has the technology.

I did think the other day watching a film on my CRT TV in my room that the quality of it was amazing! Much sharper and smoother than a TFT or LCD. They are much more refined than the new flat panels- but they are catching up! I wish I could get a Samsung SyncMaster- they look awesome!

I'm slightly concerned that CRT fans are considering moving to TFT now that we have 120hz displays. I know 60hz is horrible on a CRT but it's fine, absolutely fine in fact on a TFT.

Currently all of the 120hz monitors are disgusting TN panels so you will lose the sublime colour reproduction CRT's are famous for.

It's a serious mistake and a massive oversight. Stop before it's too late and get a high end IPS panel.

Im still using my trusty old Compaq p1220 With the Dimatron tube in it. Games are absolutely stunning on it. I am considering moving to a high quality flat panel such as the now IPS from HP thats meant to be out this month. However, I wont be dumping the P1220. That will be kept incase the Flat panel just aint cutting it. Up until recently iv never seen a Flat panel that can match this p1220 in quality. the colours are simply stunning, almost all LCD iv seen look washed out in comparison.

1999 vintage 19" Sony G400 connected to the PC. Dell 2005FPW on the Mac as it's DVI only. I'm not a fan of TN screens, they're just generally sucky. Can't beat a good CRT for vibrancy. About the only thing I'd give it up for would be a posh Dell 24" or the Apple LED Cinema display.

Still on a 21" Dell CRT, weighs far too much. I did buy a 24" TN a while back but it was insanely sucky so I sent it back. Viewing angle was the problem, the actual picture was fine (actually very good) if you sat looking down at it!
Got a Dell 2408WFP at work connected via VGA. That looks bad too, colours look dithered (even white!)

I do miss my Iiyama CRT which could go up to 200Hz! But it did have 2 feint horizontal guide wires which showed up on bright scenes which annoyed the hell out of me! The picture and colours were really good though. But now I've seen what an LCD can do, I am happy to stick with it, it's virtually as good and no annoying lines.
Haha, the good old "Trinitron lines". A mark of quality back in the day :D
Still got the three trinitron tubes on my desk at work. Better than any of the crap TFTs we've got kicking around, anyway.

i dont think the colours were better on CRT.. well not on my iiyama pro... i find my LCD much more vivid in the colour department and has better contrast.. crisp text and smoothness of motion, now thats a different story.

yeah, i agree, not owning a LCD what i am finding is that web sites that have a picture of something dark, look quite indistinguishable in some cases.

Try calibrating it!

My Sony is far better than most LCDs at being able to distinguish dark and light extremes of the color range. I am impressed however with the latest LED backlit screens such as the Apple 24" Cinema.

Until today i had a 19" crt dell monitor and used to swear by it arguing it's advantages over tft with everyone that said tft was better. Now i am eating my words a lot i bought one of the benq led monitors and while it's dirt cheap the picture quality of this monitor hammers my dell. Played cs:s as well as most of my other games trying to find something i could say "aha crt was better for this" but the truth is i havn't found a single thing. When they first came out i would agree that crt kicked their backside but not anymore the latest tft monitors are a lot better but only if your not blinded by your love for your crt like i was.

I don't think it's blindness. You are obviously an all round user but to those that earn a living from photography and other CAD the shortfalls of a cruddy TN panel are enormous. It depends on the kind of use, and in your case i'm glad you're well chuffed.

It's not how vivid the colours are surely? i'd have thought it was more to do with how true they are? We can all look at a TN samsung LCD and go wow becasue it's bright and colouful but it's all lies, it is exciting but unfaithful to real life images. I'm not a photogrsapher so I may be wrong?

Yeah i guess for those doing specialised stuff with top end crt's there may well be a benefit over tft but that doesn't apply to general users like you say and most wouldn't notice much difference going to tft from crt these days in terms of performance and picture quality just you picky graphics bunch :).

yeah im not talking photographer levels but i know what red and blue looks like mate lol just saying "to me" the colours are more vibrant on LCD than on my CRT. CRT colours compared seemed quite pretty dull. did you have a CRT?
