Last week I was in court and got 5 points for 100mph on the M6. Clearly I didn't learn my lesson because on Saturday I got caught at 85mph on the motorway in Dumfries.

Both were forward facing long range LTI 20.20 safety cameras on bridges that must have got me about 700m to 1km away.

So I now have 8.
 
At this pace you wont have a licence left anymore.....Keep it up. At least drivers like you are rid off.

I dont have any.

I'm currently trying to loophole myself out of a further 3-5 points using advice from pepipoo. It may or may not work, but I'll take the risk of a harsher penalty in court.

Both offences were on a bike and both within 100 yards of my home.

@ OP - this is the real reason you not having heating isn't it! ;)
 
Through a gross miscarraige of justice I was given 4 points for a CD10 - Driving without due care and attention.
Peolpe with 9 points for speeding don't get the same hike in insurance premiums that I do :(
 
Zero, mostly down to the fact that both the Fiat and the Olds aren't quick cars :)

Yes, seriously, I got fined £185 in Carlisle and had to pay £55 to get there on the train. Now another £60 fine, £200 a year rise in insurance.
 
Was quite surprised by this one since I was under the impression that in Scotland there were no forward facing cameras, but this one got me from quite a distance away @ 85mph, 3 more points! Motorway was absolutely freakishly empty, which is why they caught me, I was the only car on the road so any muppet sitting in the van is likely to take a look at my speed!

Will now be on 8 points for a few years which is a bit of a pain to say the least!

My advice is: Don't speed. If you must speed then do it at night because they don't use the LTI 20.20 guns. Or if all the other traffic is moving along at 85 then you might get away with it since they can't nick everyone.

The LTI 20.20 is a nasty bit of kit. I have often joked that I have little sympathy for people who get done by Gatso cameras, seriously if you can't slow down by the time you reach the camera you can't be paying much attention! The LTI 20.20 however has a maximum range of up to 3km and the police are allowed to use them up to 1km away. So unless you have a passenger with binoculars you are pretty screwed. Alternatively before setting off on your journey you could visit the website of every police county you plan to speed through.

I am still not convinced by the speed camera detectors. My understanding is that it only takes 4/25ths of a second to record the speed of a vehicle, so if something beeps on the dashboard what hope have you of slowing down before you get recorded?

I have to say though that I did try not speeding at all when I drove from home to Edinburgh on Monday. I got 67.2mpg over the whole journey and used just half a tank of fuel all the way from Southampton. The engine is most efficient at the peak of the torque curve which is likely to be at or below the national speed limit in most cars. Then you have to take into account that wind resistance increases proportionally to the square of your speed. In other words, you can save a lot of fuel and a lot of stress by not speeding. I don't want to see my friends in the position I am in!

I'll put getting caught twice down to simple probability - I do 14'000 miles a year and I always used to speed on the motorway. Now I will not be able to.

If you want to carry on speeding then best of luck and remember, never exceed 95mph otherwise you will get sent to court and it isn't pleasant.

8pts - No insurance, not TOTALLY my fault this time, my dad was paying my insurance to repay a debt owed me (21 years of missed birthdays & xmas's) i changed my car and he didn't update the policy details i gave him, pulled by five-o, producer = 2nd IN10 :(

Good boy for a few years, all points expired.

16 pts 2xIN10, suffering from depression due to other court case(=distracted), didn't get the policy renewal info from my insurer, pulled on ANPR checks, twice in 5 days. Clean licence -> banned in one hearing. No fine though. Magistrate was quite understanding of the situation.

41pts in total.

Surprisingly i've not had a speeding ticket since i started driving vans ;)
