Hi all,

How many S-ATA drives can I fit per channel. I have a PC atm and it seems to be point to point. ie. one sata drive per sata socket (not like IDE where u can fit 2 per ribbon).

Reason: I need to spec a PC for work with 3 Sata drives

thanks for your time

Just one per channel , although you can get some motherboards with more than 1 sata controller or add in a pci sata card . Though the last time I did that the board would always try to boot off the pci sata card rather than the onboard controller as the only option in the bios was to boot from scsi or ide , and as a lot of boards only see sata as a scsi device this may be your best option .

so i guess you only get 2 channels per controller?

hmmm gonna have a browse for a mobo with 4 channels :D

[edit]

does any1 know if there are boards out that can fit 3-4 sata drives without a PCI card. ;)

Yep there are loads, what socket do you want? My Asus K8V SE Deluxe(socket 754) has 4 channels and it is a pretty old motherboard now. If you look at the specifications of most decent motherboards they have 4 channels(i.e. 2 separate controllers often).
