Hi I am looking to build a new pc and the only thing I am stuck on is whether one m.2 SSD (512gb) is enough. I do also have a 1TB external hard drive.

Thanks.

If not having big space needs (or more special uses) one drive has always been enough.

Though would still partition drive to have operating system separately from data in case of needing to nuke it and install fresh.

It just depends on the user
But if building a pc
The cost of adding a second drive
Even if it's a 2.5 SSD really is minimal in the overall cost
Plenty uses for it
Like clone your main drive to it
Then if something goes wrong with your main drive
You can just boot off the other one with no down time
Or use it to store extra backups
Or recovery image files etc
Really does depend on the individual persons usage needs
Mines a bit extreme with 3 X m2 and 4 X 2.5 ssds
And several external ssds
If any of your data is important to you
Having too many backup drives is better
Than having 1 too few
