Puntos are good spacious cars and that is all there is to it:
Avoid the MK1 as minor engine malfunctions can turn into nasty major ones where repair costs exceed the value of the car... not forgetting the horrid engine range with 0-60 speeds @ 19 years on popular 1.1 models Given the age of the MK1 models, most will probably be rusting by now.
Avoid the MK2 as it is prone to engine misfiring problems, which was a problem that was never solved in the MK1 engine range. Avoid the 8v engine range which is as horrid as the MK1 8v range.
Avoid the MK3 since Fiat never bothered to do much improvements over the MK2 apart from the looks. The interior plastics are very cheap, try pushing the buttons on the centre console and the car will probably fall apart.
To summarise, avoid the Punto. They are cheap for a reason (both new and second hand), there are much better alternatives.
