How many times do traffic light camera's flash?

ohmygaaaawd

yeah, he might have slowed down to 50, but that wasnt enough to stop him if the lights did show red.

you know the lights. big things, bright. on tall sticks. and the cameras. again, big things on sticks. stand out a bit.

if you cant see these, then how the hell could you see a pedestrian walking into the road?
so you drive about at 30mph on an NSL on the slight chance that a light might change?

By Kidlington Airport are the worst, my dad got caught there. The trick is to drop it down a gear, approach them and look to the right to see if there are cars waiting. If there are cars there, expect to brake. If there isn't, floor it :D

Nothing at the junction, was completely free, was about 11 at night so no traffic.

There's no space in "miseducated".

:D

Anyway, call it quits now. Banter aside. Apologies for winding you up, but if you're forces you'll have had worse.

Oh I've had worse, what annoys me is people who just jump on a bandwagon and start slating someone who just wanted a simple and honest answer to something. As for winding up, I generally don't get it anymore as the people that work for me know better by now.

And if you're correcting spelling and grammar, there's a few mistakes from you on the previous page.

No, I was just lapping up the irony of you calling me mis educated, and spelling it wrong.

Out of curiosity, you're not logistics are you? Now that would be ironic.

No, I'm in the Royal Signals for all my sins.

Agreed, Deko makes a good point. If there was a danger, the speed limit would be reduced from NSL to something more sensible. I do go in the fast lane when approaching a similar set of lights as said above, but only drop speed to 50ish, otherwise everyone would be driving at 30mph. The worrying thing is when you are anticipating the light change and you get somebody following close behind... I get worried that if I must brake, that they will go straight in the back of me

I hate people that tailgate. Especially if you drive something that has above average brakes and you slam on, poor Mr Focus behind won't stand a chance.

They do flash twice, it's something to do with trying to govern your speed presumably so that they can try and apply some logic before sending you the 3 big kisses.

To the OP, I'd say for sure that it's the TT that's been flashed and not you.

I can't believe how misinterpreted this thread seems to have been.

Coming onto the A46/M40 roundabout the light went amber when I was about 15 yards from them, I went through as there was no chance I would have stopped.

If the lights change to amber just as you approach them - then there is more than enough time to safely (legally) pass through before they turn red. If you aren't through the lights before they turn red, then you were obviously far enough down the road to have stopped (and you made the wrong decision not to stop), OR you were travelling too fast for the road conditions.

In your case it sounds like you were very close (you say less than 15m's/yards - I would suspect it may have actually been less depending on whether it was a 30mph zone) to the lights when they first changed to amber and so were correct to pass through.

An Audi TT followed me another 50 yards or so behind me and the camera went off twice.

I would suspect that it was this driver who triggered the camera, and as some people have already suggested, it would have flashed twice to catch him.

There were no other cars that went through that I could see.

I'd be pretty hacked off if I was done as there was no way of stopping for the line without a reverse thrust jet engine or something.

You don't get done for 'jumping' an amber. If you genuinely had no way of stopping, then there is no way the lights would have changed to red before you had passed through! And so you will be fine.

The exception to this being that in wet/icy conditions then your stopping distance is obviously greater and so if you are travelling at the speed limit for the road, then you MAY hit a situation where if the lights change at the 'wrong' time, then you won't be able to stop before the line (often this is the time when people use the 'it was safer to keep going' line??!), but also that you were far enough down the road that you won't nessesarily be through the lights before they turn red. In this instance you are simply travelling too fast for the conditions and there would be no excuse.

lol :)

Anyways, no harm done this time. Next time say the vehicle behind was a Toyota Hi-Lux and the blokes driving looked a bit iffy. Might just work ;)

When a traffic light changes to amber it will remain at amber for long enough that you can safely do one of the following:

1) Stop before the line
2) Pass through before it changes to red

It doesn't matter where you are on the approach when the lights change, you will always have time to do one of these things, no matter what the speed limit of the road.

The ONLY time where you 'could' be caught out, is if the road conditions are bad and the lights change at the 'wrong' time. In that instance you'd have been travelling too fast for the road conditions (even if slightly under the posted limit) and so you 'could' end up running a red. But it'd be through bad driving, not any 'bad timing' of the lights changing.

Exactly my worry too, especially as my brakes are a fair bit better than you'll find on most shopping trollies ;)

I hate that junction, such a stupid design :(
