Friends get an "x" from me, even the guys - it's just something that we all do to sign off a txt or msn.
Mum gets "xx" because she says it's like me and her x & x
Girlfriends usually get "xxx" or if I'm feeling particularly arty at the time of signing off, xXx

Anything more could be classed as needy, show unpresidented love or even gayness (if that is a word)
Sometimes they get none, just to keep them on their toes

when i first went out with my g/f i spiced it up and instead of the usualy xxxxx etc you see it put X!
don't bother anymoer and never will hopefully, seems so stupid to do it unless you're young and trying to say i like you without saying it, and as someone has said above, it's better to show the love rather then a stupid letter

As many as I get in the message. From one girl I never get any X's so she doesn't get any back. Another girl sends me loads and does that arty **** I can't be bothered with (xXxXxXx). She also gets a bit miffed if I forget to text her back with at least one X.
We swapped numbers round in my mates mobile phone book once meaning he though he was texting a girl he fancied, but it was actually me. The end result was she got invited to a darts tournament and i got invited to dinner. I carried it on for a bit, so now whenever he texts me, I put a X at the end to remind him never to leave his phone at the bar
