how much do you reckon a taxi driver makes?

A lot if you are willing to work the hours and shifts required as well as managed to get the required licenses for the popular pick up points.

They can easily make 300 a night take home after company deductions on fri/sat
 
MOst Taxi drivers are self employed or contracted. You would be looking at earning in the region of £400-500 weekly in the area (Wiltshire) that I live in, that is after you have paid for the hire of the meter and stuff. You will need to be CRB checked and have a hackney licence or be able to hire one.

It does depend entirely on the shifts you work. The best are obviously fri-sat nights and the school runs. Getting airport work is a bit hit and miss.
 
As hatter said, the mini cab driver will not be paying much if any tax so even if they are only making 25 to 30 per year its like the rest of us having to earn 45 to 50k pear year to take home the same amount.

I was told back in 2007 a london black cab driver made 25 to 30 but they could make more working longer hours.

In Soton a rough standard was about £500pw after costs, but that was about 4 years ago. Things (petrol, other car necessities) are more expensive now, so they'd take home less.
 
Depends whether it's your car, supplied by a firm, independent,location, what hours you are prepared to work.

I know a couple of taxi drivers, both with their own car working for a small company.

Tips especially at Xmas can be a lot. Also getting vouchers on your fuel means for at least one of them all the family Christmas presents are paid for by the vouchers.

leading up to Christmas and new year you can earn £200 to £300 per night after costs.
 
The minicab market is seriously competitive (its not exactly a skilled job). People saying 25-30k are being completely unrealistic.

Black cabs on the other hand aren't as open to competition and they like complaining about minicabs all the time.
 
u need a hackney carriage license or whatever is it to pick up people on the street/from taxi ranks which i imagine is where the real money is.

or you only allowed to pick up customers who have phoned whatever company you work for
