How much do you rely on mobile devices?

My job dictates that I must be contactable at all times during reasonable office hours... by phone, Email, SMS, anything. So as much as I think how wonderful life would be without my Blackberry, I seem to have no choice in the matter! Ho hum.

I mistakenly left my Blackberry in a hotel last week... it was heaven for the 18 odd hours before I had another one shoved into the palm of my hand!

Id say my mobile was pretty important to me getting close to my current girfriend before we were actually going out. Also i find it really useful if im out etc and need to contact parents/other friends etc.

Though in saying that at worst theres always the good old pay phone. So id say mobile is advantages too my life but i dont really rely on it

My mp3 player on the other hand stops me going crazy at chavs on the busses.. Not sure if its the music, the poor sound quality from there phones or a mixture of both but there music gives me a really good headache and normally ends up with me getting pretty angry. So id say mp3 player i rely on a lot!

Laptop... I couldnt live without a computer completley, because if im honest I would just be bored lol... Phone is a neccecity for me too really... I have a bussiness line on there which routes all my Radio Station calls to and of course my personal line for work and family...

Sad... I know :p

Quick side note - what's the deal with people walking around with bluetooth headsets constantly on? Okay, if you're a mobile worker, then maybe it's good, but if you're some chav on the street, come on, you don't have that many important calls to take. I've seen people wear them all the way through films in the cinema!

I was thinking earlier 'what would I do without a mobile phone'. Everyone I know has one, and for the most part it's my main method of communicating with family and friends when we aren't together. I rely on it heavily, partly because I've been using one for so long. I don't have many home numbers, something I would have amassed did I not have a mobile. I text a lot, handy when a call isn't appropriate or you're trying to arrange something with a group of people. With free minutes I rarely use my house phone unless it's a premium rate call (abroad or 0870, not chat lines):p Can't say I've used one in a business capacity, but can see how they are nothing short of essential for some people.

So yes, were mobiles to be uninvented tomorrow I'd struggle. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but it would take some getting used to, and I'd have a whole lot of home phone numbers to collect.

I can't say really embraced any other mobile devices as much. I had a pager way back in the day, but it was expensive to contact and no good for 2-way communication. Perhaps handy in an emergency situation where you must be contacted, but that's about it.

Oh, and people who unnecessarily wear a bluetooth headset like it was a fashion accessory need shooting. I'm sure for some people it is useful, but I get the distinct feeling some wear 'em just to look like right ponces.

The only reason I have a mobile is so the wife can phone me. I spend about £30 a year on calls a year, but I would like this to be less. I think I could live without any mobile devices, don't need one for my job.

When back in my parents place we all have mobile phones, cordless home telephones, both doorbells are wireless, there's a thing in the kitchen which uses a wireless signal to tell the level of oil in the oil tank, and we use an 802.11g network...

I'm surprised it all works without any interference!
