How much do you save a month ?

I am slowing acruing money in my current account now i am earning a bit more but the money leaving my account in an attempt to apportion my money is £300.00 (£250 to 5 different managed funds on HL + £50 into premium bonds (sad i know))

£0.00 in savings. £0.00 in pension.

We dont have a lot of money left over after the essentials, and due to how hard we work we spend it enjoying ourselves (modestly I might add - a few drinks and a takeway at the weekend etc).

That may well be changing if a baby comes along though. I foresee me working even more hours as the better half will need to give up work in the interim.

The net result will still be £0.00 in pension and savings! :p

Additionally, I find this kind of thread interesting as it highlights the differences between many members of the forum - and of wider society.

Some people here are saving more in a month than I earn!

Some people are more than likely telling fibs!

Quite a few savers here yet we are led to believe we are on hard and tight times?

Saving a little but I'm mostly paying off my mortgage.

Deposits are degraded due to inflation being slightly greater than the interest rates.. ISA or not.

Nothing. The government will take of me when I'm older.

In fact I try to spend all my money as soon as I get it, before it gets devalued by inflation.

I doubt it. OCUK has some well educated people and work in industries that command a good salary, throw in the fact that some. It live at home or still flat share despite bringing home 40k. Contrasty to what some moaners will say, there are plenty of degrees that will quickly see you within 40k in a short time (and even some that will start at more than that).

Good engineers in oil and gas or CS/math majors in investment banking can easily see 50k by their mid to late twenties and such people might happily share a flat and bills with their mates.

Never mind saving per month, all I've been doing is raiding my savings a little this year for anything above the standard monthly outgoings, I might need to raid a little at the end of the month after treating myself to a 7970 Matrix in the last few days!

Haven't actively saved anything in a while, I just let it accure in my current account.

When at a cashpoint I pause on the 'funds available' screen, turn around, raise an eyebrow and give a cheeky wink to any ladies in the queue. Beats a 2% ISA :p

£200 into a couple of investment funds
£250 into cash savings
~£150ish into a pension fund of which my work chuck in an extra £200 which is nice of them lol

I need to start saving a lot more though if I want any chance at getting a decent deposit for a house.
