In theory my Journey should be cheap. However My choice of car doesn't really fit the terrain. I made the mistake of thinking "small engine = big MPG" Which is usually the case except if the small engine is in a 1.5tonne BMW and your route crosses 3 of the biggest hills in south London. despite only being a 1.9 it does about 24MPG to work i actually am upgrading to a 320Ci which despite having 6 cylenders and 300cc more engine will climb hills a lot better, the coupe is about 150Kgs lighter too which will help.

Which is still MUCH cheaper than the £135 per month it was costing me for a London zones 1-4 travelcard. and it only takes me 35mins rather than an hour and a half... Public transport is so great!! Privatisation was a good idea obviously

It was £150 petrol a month, but started getting the train which is £120. Gonna cycle 2 miles to another train station soon though, which cuts train down to £75.

Approximately 240 miles per month which works out at £40 petrol per month. Tax/MOT/servicing/insurance is maybe £500 per year. Assuming 90% of my mileage is commuting, that's a further £37.5 per month

so £77.50pm in theory, probably a bit less as i occassionaly use a company vehicle to commute and cycle a lot in summer.
