How much does your graphics card really cost?

Sorry but the notion of how much per month seems utterly pointless to me... if the 1080ti was £600 and it’s now £900+ it’s still £300 more for the same hardware. Cost of console = less than the single component therefore this doesn’t make any sense. Gets worse considering the overpriced mid range if there is such a thing.

Strange thread...

Lol! I paid £90 for my 7850 (with 3 free games!) in Nov 2013. Sadly it died about 8 months ago :(
Monthly cost =£2.04

Which means I am back using the card I had before... an HD 5770

Paid £117.00 in October 2010
Monthly cost = £1.30

I would upgrade but the prices are obscene ATM. Even 2nd hand market is ridiculous!

Just wait it out that's what I'm doing. So many components have increased in price the overall upgrade cost of a new system is just too high for me. £1000 for a gpu seems very high given their relatively short life span.

When I can do a motherboard, RAM, CPU and GPU for £1000 and see a decent increase in performance I'll jump back in.

I'm back to using my trusty 5850 since my 290X died after just a year. Bought from OCUK for £115 almost 7 years to the day which works out at around £1.60 PM if I remove the year I used the 290X.

Cost Price/units of time owned.....or
(Cost price-sell price)/units of time owned

Then factor in electricity costs vs last card if applicable

Then factor in mining profits if applicable

Have I missed anything?

Waiting for the usual suspects to notice the thread... and ensuing gems such as, "The prices are not high, you're just poor." "It's still cheaper than my other hobby/coke habit/mistress." "If you mine 24/7 it pays for itself." "Prices have never been cheaper once you factor in inflation/exchange rate/R&D costs/memory prices/planetary alignment/cost of designer leather jackets."

And so on and so forth.

But actually this thread is nice in that it's not only me going against this narrative. I had begun to think I was the only one resisting the new price norms.

Surely you have to factor in;
electricity costs
Other hardware costs (as the gpu is pretty much worthless to the owner without the means to utilise it)
Hours used

Otherwise it's just a 'when did you buy your gpu and what did you pay for it' thread with the words tarted up a bit.

What if you sell it for £700 after you are bored of it? The true cost of ownership was zero.

I am not defending current GPU prices.

This is it, it doesnt matter how much you say "I wouldnt pay £900 for a 1080ti" anything you do say to point out how ridiculous some of the tantrums are, you apparently become "one of them" and you are supporting GPU prices being a million pounds each. Welcome to crazy town.
