How much is a tailored suit?

So how much is a tailored suit now-a-days? How long is the process and what tailors would you recommend?

As in fully tailoredfrom scratch Or an off the shelf and they'll fit it to you?

Depends on the tailors but from about 700 quid and up (way up!). Could take up to 12 weeks and 3 fittings to get it right as a first time customer for a from scratch suit.

Check out places like Gieves & Hawkes, Fielding & Nicholson, Anderson & Sheppard.

If what you want isn't something bespoke but just a good fit then it is sometimes best to buy off the rack and have alterations done to get a perfect fit.

I pay about £150 in Vietnam and £350 in Bangkok (these are expensive for those places) , you are looking £1000-1500 over here but can be loads more

I always recommend Dress2Kill if you want a proper bespoke suit but price is important. You'll be measured and given advice by a proper tailor but the suits are made abroad so take a while to come back. Prices start from £500 on their website but they're forever doing deals (either straight money off or free shirts).

Yep I agree with importing. Go to a good tailor the first time, then import. The suits I wear would cost well over 1,000 here.

depends what you mean by a 'tailored' suit.. there are various services where you can get them done on the cheap - someone measures you over here and sends the details off to somewhere in Asia

if you want one done over here, where you can meet your cutter if you like and can genuinely customise any little details you like... an actual bespoke suit will cost you closer to a grand

you might well prefer to get a made to measure suit instead

while better than nothing that will never be a bespoke suit, I have normally needed 3-4 fittings for the ones I have had made

Just buy a suit from Slaters that "fits"and get a tailor to make it fit even better.

well yeah - point was that is available but the Asian tailor options is skimping a bit... you want to be able to go back a few times over the course of a few weeks. AFAIK the cost of material for a good suit would be more than some of the costs quoted in here.

Sky pretty much the limit - IIRC last time cost me (actually someone else as they were paying for the whole wedding do) about £700 all in for nothing too fancy including a couple of visits for fitting/adjustment.

Depends where you go. Some do the original cutting abroad and then alternations in shop.

One of mine was £2740.00 but I have others which are more plus the overcoat as well. I had around 2/3 fittings for mine and it does fit like a glove.

I'd expect....

Assuming shoulders and jacket length sufficient:
TM Lewin - half canvas with two pairs of trousers, maybe £300 and then associated tailoring costs (sleeves @ £40 and trousers @ £20 as an example)
Next step up would be Reiss or Suit Supply (around £550-700 + tailoring)

Made to measure - with two pairs of trousers, probably between £750-1500

Bespoke - £2500+ (+++)

I always hear the term 'cheap polyester suit' in films and tv shows, but I always just see a suit as a suit, I couldn't tell what material it was made out of.

Would paying £700 ensure no one would think it was a cheap polyester suit? I might need to buy one soon.

I just want a suit that fits nicely, abroad I can get a decent tailored suit for £345.

I'm not fussy about what suit to buy, I really like the navy type of colour suits. But some of my friends said to get a black suit, not sure... It doesn't have to be made from scratch, I even prefer to see myself wearing the suit and see if I like it before buying it. With tailored suits from scratch, you can't exactly do that...
