I think looking forward and considering i may get a 1440p monitor soon, i would want 8gb on my next gpu (currently have 4gb with a 980 at 1080p)
 
Yea, I had to think twice about this one -
If you were driving a 4k display you'd really want 12 at least in a next gen card.

In my poor man's 1080p world i'd say 8 will do for a couple of years!
 
Proberbly 16. Don't think I could go for less then I have now, even if it is not always really used. More of a want to have rather then need to have however.

With cards like the Titan or the Polaris equivalent it is best to get them near launch time. Doing this means you get the maximum use out of them before you have to upgrade which in the long run makes them reasonable value for money.

Taking the Pascal Titan for example it is likely to launch before the Ti card and because it has more memory will still be in use after people have stopped using the Ti versions.
