How often do people reinstall their operating system

To be fair its normally me that breaks it.

Creative managed it too when I was foolish enough to try and xfi with vista 64, forgot about that... never booted properly after that.

didnt think it was possible to do that. im on my second rig and i purchased another oem copy of xp for this second build, perhaps im to honest:o
My OEM XP Home has seen 4 different motherboards, 5 different processors and moved from DDR to DDR2 and I have only had to phone Microsoft once to reactivate, all the other times reactivation was done over the net.

someone will point out sooner or later regardless of whether it activated it's still a breach of the licence and therefore illegal.

Personally I don't give a monkeys but its a point worth making.

Yeah hardly ever if you know what you're doing is the answer, never in snowdogs case is not a good idea, because he does have problems and his PC cannot possibly run the way you'd want to after 5 mobo changes no matter what he talks. Check his last few threads probably i know he pops up occasionally with a problem :)

Once every year or so.
I just keep a ghost image with my core programs + updates installed so once that's been put on, I just need to install any new updates and any games I'm playing and away I go. Completely finished in less time than it would take just to format and install XP.

I have not concluded it's a software problem yet, I haven't had the time due to exams... I tbh hope it's xp, but I still doubt it and think it's my mainboard instead... My dads pc seems to run fine while it's had many more boards than mine. But time will tell, Tuesday I have my last exam, after that I'm thoroughly testing my pc in my fresh vista install, while testing some of my hardware on a different pc... Of course I'll report when my xp is not guilty and keep using it :D. Otherwise I'll move to Vista gradually, moving all my games to it...

I must be a freak,

Im always mucking about re-installing and such on my gaming system.

My laptop, thats another story, Its re-built probably every 3 months lol.

I like messing about with new drives and graphics cards and such, hence the rebuilds on my gaming rig. Plus its not too much of a mission as i dont keep anything important on there and its rebuilt straight from my windows home server, so i just boot from the rebuild cd. It puts a clean copy of vista ultimate on, then i just stick on what drivers an such im messing about with from there. :D

Whenever things get sluggish. Last time I reformatted was when I built the rig in sig which was 18 months ago! I'll be ordering 1tb drive soon as I'm almost out of space again :(

Every year or so. Usually coincides with me getting new hardware or having a problem/series of small problems that are best fixed by just removing them from existence completely. Planning to format and reinstall Vista soon because I want to switch to 64-bit, and Vista's being a bit odd with me with regards to randomly changing folder view settings, and not Sleeping properly.

Only when it breaks.

My Vista install on my laptop has been going since August 2007. Still feels pretty rapid, but I do a system cleanup and defrag once a week or whenever I can remember.
