How often do you buy new clothes

I am an old man!

I wont hesitate to spend a ton of money of my fishing gear or walking gear.a few hundred quid on waterproof gear is fine as it works, same with boots, I would spend more money on a good set of walking boots than I would for about 5 years worth of casual shoes

I suppose I see better value in getting the right tools for my hobbies than anything else

i used to buy clothes every week but back then i was going out probably 3-4 times a week too.

now i buy clothes say once every 3 months and when i want or need something. i just bought some trainers today as an impulse buy. they were half price down from £110 so i couldn't resist they look fantastic too and different from anything else i have. i need a new pair of smart shoes as the ones i have atm have a very thin sole and i can feel every bump and stone on the ground. i don't know what route to go down as i hate smart shoes with laces.

i will buy a new suit or three every year as i go to a lot of functions. i will also get new shirts, ties, etc at the same time.

i do also own 3 gucci belts working my way up to a different one for every day.

there will probably become a time where once every 3 months turns into once every 6-12 months.

i must have around 50 t shirts from qwertee for work. i used to dress smart (shirt and trousers) but I don't care now i find that with every new job. start off smart then since it's lax just where t shirts.

i will say though since i bought my barbour last year (waxed cotton) i haven't really worn any of my other jackets in 15 months.

i want to get a nice mac type jacket which is lighter for a smarter look.

i'm not hugely into fashion either. the next generation thanks to shows like TOWIE and instagram, snapchat, etc are all fashion orientated and well on it. it's the young which keeps a lot of these brands alive. i've heard of youngsters spending their full weeks wage on a night out and the other 3 weeks wages on clothes sometimes even just a single item of clothing.

i do own £150 shirts but they are like one offs which look really special. but those days are long gone now i will spend up to £75 on a shirt max these days.

My clothes stress me out far more than they should and I end up chasing an unknown look and buying too many things though I am getting better.

I try to maintain a capsule wardrobe and at the moment I'm keeping to it. I've also found that as I'm getting bored of something as most of my clothes are plain, if I get a decent iron on patch in a design I like, then I'll keep wearing the same black sweatshirt for much longer as it feels different again.

I'm an old man early, I tend to just get given clothes off wife/mother for Xmas or birthday I really don't care. A pair of smart jeans and a smart polo and I'm happy, really couldn't care and I'm equally as casual in my approach to work.

Not enough, my t shirts are well worn and a few years old, as well as my jeans. Only thing I can consistently buy without issue is trainers/shoes and coats/jackets, t shirts never fit right or wash out of shape and I really struggle to find jeans I like to wear without buying the same ones again and again (usually Levi's).

ASOS used to do brilliant ribbed t shirts in multipacks but then all of a sudden stopped. Quality was much better and they never washed out of shape.

When I see something I like.

Same. I buy clothes fairly regularly. I'll happily spend a lot of money on shoes/boots because they last a lot longer that way. I bought some dr martens recently and I can see them lasting years. The boots I wear for work every day were pretty expensive, but I expect to get 2 years of daily wear from them.

I've probably got quite a lot of clothes by all accounts, but there's some stuff that I've been wearing for years that I can't bring myself to get rid of, and other stuff that's relatively knew but I'll probably also keep for years.

I've recently felt a bit more like I should buy stuff that'll last, so I bought some slightly more expensive jeans than usual, for example.

Mainly summer or christmas/boxing day sale is when i'll start looking at buying new clothes but so far I have not found the need to buy any new clothes as I don't wear a lot of them now as I always come home in my work clothes or gym clothes during a working week and then be straight in shower and then sleeping clothes ready to chill out before going sleep. Only in weekends or events id be in something not work/gym attire.

Just curious, what's your budget...I really let things get tatty, let shoes wear down to the metal etc... total hobo!

As you said I wait till I have to, so only buy as and when needed.

Sadly tho since new clothes are not made to last and tend to be poor quality thin material its more often than it was a decade ago.

As and when required/desired which works out quite regularly. I'm not interested in fashion or what I look like to others, However, I like a lot of outdoorsy sports/hobbies so my main priorities are comfort fit and functionality, and tend to wear the same clothes as I use for my activities day to day, so inevitably things wear out or if I see something that performs better I'll replace it.
I suppose I end up buying a couple of items every month, as summer and consequently winter comes round I might find myself buying a quite a few more season specific items.

I do more often than not get a lot of useful life out of my clothes and equipment, I will always do my research before buying and make sure if I'm putting a lot of money into an item that its going to last and its going to perform well when I am up in the hills with it.
I do find my wardrobe does from time to time get too full, at which point I purge, and take the older stuff that I no longer wear to the clothes banks or bin it if its past its useful life.

I grew up in the 60's (You know, that time of unprecedented universal prosperity that the millennials are always moaning about)

So the habit of buying S/H from charity etc shops never really went away.

The only clothes I buy new are work-wear.

Probably not enough. I used to buy stuff from Primark because it was cheap and slightly functional but it would fall apart or look crap after a wash or two. Now I just get stuff from my mate who seems to inherit loads of expensive cloths he doesn't want and gives them to me. This is a benefit of being older. You don't give too much of a damn what you wear to a certain extent. The clothes I get are great quality and expensive brands.

When and as needed.
In my mid teens to early twenties it was very frequent but these days kids and my wife shake me down to often to purchase something just because i like it.

epic spambot thread revival.....

anyway - as rarely as i can get away with.......now i'm not a prepubescent teen i no longer feel the need to conform to fashion trends, nor do i need to try and create an image to fit in with friends. i also know i'm hot as **** so the fancy wrapper isn't needed. :p;)
