How often do you get a new GPU?

Annualy? Every couple of years? Every single time a faster card is released? Once in a blue moon?

curious. A card used to last me quite a few years but this jump to 4K is going to force me to buy a new card within 12 months I think

If you can't run the games you want to play at the settings/resolutions you prefer with acceptable frame rates to you, then that's the time to upgrade.

I suppose if you have money to blow then upgrade every new release.

Tricky one though, because everyone's preferred settings/resolution/framerate, is everything maxed out, highest possible res. at 144hz

It's about where we all personally draw the line.

When I feel like it. Recent cards for me have been - 3 x 680, 3 x Titan, 2 x 7950, 2 x Titan X, Fury X, 290X and a 970. All have been fun except the 7950s, which I never bothered going Crossfire and only ran the single card to test it out.

Enjoy your hardware and if you can afford it, go for it.

About every two years, maybe a little less. Depends when I find performance to be lacking, but it seems to usually be in that time frame.

For me it's when I can no longer run games at my chosen resolution at the settings I want and with an acceptable frame rate. I'm not one of those people who obsesses over 60fps or having everything absolutely maxed out but I do like games to run smoothly at as high settings as possible. If that means I have to buy a new graphics card, then that's when I upgrade.

Personally I think it's a waste of money to upgrade for the sake of it, but it's none of my business what other people do with their money.

For me, it's whenever i need it. Which is either when my current cards cannot play the games i want at the res I want or it dying :P

I like to game a lot but I dont like constantly spending on upgrades. I will just keep turning down settings, but keep the res the same. Here is my list of GPU's so you get an idea of how infrequently I purchase them :P

GF2 MX
GF4 Ti4400
8800GT
570 GTX (bought second hand 4 years ago for a planned whole system upgrade that didn't happen)
960 GTX

It used to be every 18 months/2 years but these days I don't get the time to enjoy my computer as much and I've been with a GTX670 2Gb now since almost release date. When Zen finally shows it's head I might upgrade my whole PC with a Polaris/Pascal card but that would be almost 4 years of waiting.

Generally when I can't run the games I play at the combination of settings and framerate I want.

For awhile I'd always jump on the one back from top GPU in SLI on a new release whether I needed an upgrade or not i.e. if I was buying Pascal it would have been a pair of 1070s but I don't tend to jump so quickly onto new generations these days and if I do buy first gen Pascal probably one of the OC model 1080s.

When i feel like i am no longer getting a decent experience in games i play. It's a lot longer between upgrades than i used to think was needed. My upgrades went 420mx, 9800pro, 1900xtx, 3870, 8800gtx, 5770, 6870 and 290. I don't game as much these days so it's not so important to have the best yet my 290 gave me a cheap upgrade at £200 with 4 games to sell and still gives a good experience on PC.

Basically that. I have had my GTX780 for 2.5 years now and it's still more than enough to power my games at 1920x1200. I would like a newer energy efficient card but the only real upgrade for me is a 980ti which at the ridiculous price of £500+ is way out of my reach.

In the 2 1/2 years I've been back into PC gaming I've gone through 7 Gpu's.

Now running a 980ti & have no plans on changing for at least 12-18 months.

Went from 680s to Titan Blacks, but have stuck with the blacks for a while now. Going to upgrade with the 1080ti comes around. Very interested to see what nvidia do with this gp102...

Depends, normally once a year but I upgrade if something special comes along and is within my budget. For example, I bought a 6950 because of the dual bios switch and unlockable cores. Then I bought the 680GTX because of the die shrink and the adaptive vsync. Then changed to the R9 290 because I wanted to see what Mantle was going to bring to the table. And I have kept the 290 ever since as it's probably the best GPU I have ever had.
