How often do you revisit games?

I've just started playing Just Cause 2 again.
I already have 119 hours logged on Steam from the first time :D

Before that I was re-playing Borderlands 2, but with some extra DLC ;)

I will very rarely repeat games with single player campaigns. The only exceptions which come to mind are the deus ex series. I completed deus ex again just before human revolution came out, and I am currently going back through human revolution on the wii u.

When games have a strong story element I get satisfaction from completing it and but rarely tempted to repeat them. I am the same with books and films.

Always. Tbh, there aren't many games that I really like, so I tend to replay the same games over and over. The top ones would probably be:

Deus Ex- Well over 10 times
Final Fantasy 7- Was released when I was 12, so perfect timing.
Dragon Age: Origins- probably 5 times with different characters making different choices.
Fallout New Vegas- It is just so good, and I keep trying out new mods to spice it up.
Oblivion- Was brilliant at the time.

Skyrim will definitely be top of this list in the coming years as well

My problem is my memory is pretty stellar, so I find it hard to enjoy a game the second time as I remember all the plot points and details perfectly.

This

But I play Quake 1 at least yearly and recently did Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3 and TLR back to back (I try and forget Chronicles and AOD happened at all) and really found it refreshing after the "reboot"

I think my most repeated game of all time is Final Liberation, I seem to be drawn back to it every other year for a playthrough. The cutscenes were (and still are) awesome.

Other than that I wouldn't really call it "going back" to games but I certainly seem to rotate a few - Planetside 2, War Thunder, World of Tanks.

Stunt car racer, first played about 22 years ago, still have a go every now and then :D
EGA graphic bling  [the one before VGA] but somehow still not been topped imo

Half life deathmatch is a bit of a classic, though I'd play the source one now.

Still play bf2 with mods.

i lost count the amount of times i finished The secret of monkey island, monkey island 2 sam and max hit the road, day of the tentacle, simon the sorcerer 1 and 2, Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis, Gabriel knight 2 and phantasmagoria, finished the original Crysis a few times and Final Fantasy X twice as well, oh yeah and the Shenmue games! Haven't replayed many recent games however.

only ever replayed quake2 and half life 1/2 more than once.

generally though I complete a game, and never look back at revisiting its singleplayer storyline, i find most games with singeplayer storylines are just so linear, there is one level in hl2 when you defending against combine using turrets, stuff that like has replayability value.. where as most games if they aren't rpg's have very little replayability, its kinda sad really.

and dlc's are a waste of Swear filter is there for a reason time for me, if I've finished the singleplayer already I don't care about the futures dlcs... its either in the main game as sidequest to complete then and there or its not in which case I will never bother as the game has probably been uninstalled already especially if it has zero modding support (though I guess its one of the reasons I wait a year for a game to not only drop in price but also get all of its dlc's out). Games with multiplayer tend to stay longer

Minecraft - Frequently give this up then find myself on a mates server.

thats the No implementation of a singleplayer game with a ending ever.. how the No that game is still being sold for 20£ when its developers are about the lazy No ever, it ceases to be indie development when the studio is raking in millions and its owner only has like 3people hired to work on the game for years... its only as popular as it is because of bukkit and third party developers.

games I remember that I never completed
skyrim.. dunno why I did like it (sorta was kinda of rough around the edges) ran of time and interest for it.
fallout 3 newvegas... completed the original fallout3, but then this one just my lost interest towards the end or middle who cares it was boring as No.

recent ish games I wished were much longer in singleplayer storyline
farcry 3

i find the best and most memorable singleplayer games are the ones where you die a few times because of mistakes you make forcing you to retry and play better.

^ probably wanna remove that sweary

Ah minecraft. A friend and myself made an entire city with different districts :D still go back to it every now and then to add new buildings

Currently on my third playthrough of Skyrim, going for most of the side missions and max out the level up if I can. Expect to be going at it another two or three weeks at least.

That came on the back of my third playthrough of the ME series...

...which followed on from a maxout XP replay of Fallout NV.

I also seem to find myself replaying Deus Ex HR a couple of times a year.

So I would say most of the titles above are revisited on at least an annual if not twice annual basis.

However as others have observed, I find it difficult to pick up a game where I left off, interrupted by a new title perhaps and generally start over on the next revisit.

Depends on the game. A game with lots of atmosphere like Metro 2033 I've played a few times. I've also re-visited it to play in 3D which is fantastic. Additionally if a game has great narration and gameplay I will play again, I must have played the Gears of War games a few times over.

Since I've only mentioned linear campaign games I find the games of today lack something that wants me to play them again. Campaign has got worse over the years which tells you something of the quality of modern games.
