so - how old is 'old'?

it's my Grandmas 90th birthday tomorrow, and everyone i've told before seems to think that thats reaaaally old.

it's got me thinking - what i want to know is, how old is 'old' really?

i mean, i know life expectancy is ever increasing, and i've read recently that by 2020 17% of the total global population will be over 65.
but where did the 'over 65' bracket come from - why is a 64 year old still classed as 'middle aged' only at 65 to suddenly become a 'senior citizen'?
what makes someone 'old' - is it their ability to keep up with everyday tasks, their appearance, their mobility and health? why can one 70 year old be resigned to a chair in front of the tv, whilst another is still enjoying golf / holidays / socialising etc.
what would make you feel 'old'?
i went to a gig last night and it felt like almost everyone there was younger than me, including some of the band members, and i'm only 21!

so being 'old' - is it a definite physical 'thing', or is it just a state of mind?

IMO about 60. etire and your old but ofc theres different states. Old yes, but not old that your incapable of leading life like you have done for the past 60 years.

I tend to say 30-32, depending on the person, makes you old. People need to accept that you're either young or old and this 'middle aged' category was something invented by old people to make themselves feel better.

Going past 35 made me feel old, talking to people I work with who were born when I was learning to drive. Or when I talk about old spectrum games that they have never heard of.

young < 25
really time you should grow up >25<35
'old' cos you have grown up kids >35
just old >50
actualy old >85

All imo

lol I'm 32 and still feel like a 20 year old. No signs of getting old here.

What:eek: Knew I wasnt young, but OLD??

I would have said an "old" age is anything over about 55 myself.

What "old" is to you depends on your own age at the time. :)

After talking to my mate at work the other day we were saying we remembered thinking people in their 20's being old - now we're on the other side of 25 we think nothing of it and still consider ourselves young :p

Even the oldest of us lives for a mere blink in the grand scheme.

Aside from that, anyone over the average life expectancy is old....everyone else is too youg to die :)

27 is old.

Myself and most of my friends are 20/22 years of age.

"Would you hit that 25 year old?"
"Hell yeah"
"What about this 27 year old?"
"... bit old really..."

Not sure why, 27 seems to be the number of 'getting close to 30'. 30 is ancient ;)

If the formation of the earth was the moment of New Year, primates only came around 4 minutes before the next year begins
