Still rocking my iPhone XR. Does the job, but have to be careful not to have too many apps open and to also have a battery pack or charging cable with me. That said, the battery life doesn’t seem much worse than my wife’s 14. Only paying about £17 a month for unlimited everything, so reluctant to upgrade until I really need to.

Surely you could go Sim only for a phone that old and save a fair bit?

I’m using the Samsung s21 bought over 1.5 years ago. Although I’m itching to upgrade, I can’t really justify it at the moment. The main reason I’m considering to upgrade is the much improved battery on the s23. Not a lot else options with compact size phones.

I’ll only upgrade if Samsung come along with a good deal.

I hate how they got rid of the microSD slot and removable batterys
I read that will soon change. The EU are on the side of consumers, apart from the mass adoption of the USB C standard across the mobile industry for charging in the past few years, this includes Apple having to adopt it for their next iPhone model. The next change will be by the end of 2027, all mobiles sold will require user-replaceable batteries.

Thats good if its true.. but 2027 seems a long way off.

I had my Huawei P20 Pro for 4 years before I upgraded to a Pixel 6 Pro in early 2022. I had a few stupid issues with the Pixel which annoyed me early in its ownership and apart from the bigger screen and higher resolution, I think I still prefer the P20, especially for its reliability and dependability.

I liked the P20 so much that I kept hold of it and still use it every now and then as a mobile hotspot when I'm working away, the battery still seems very good and always holds a decent charge between each use. I do try to maintain battery health though by using low current chargers and charge to the 20-80 rule. I've had the Pixel for about 18 months and the battery life is still as good as I remember when it was new.

I plan to keep the Pixel for at least 4 years... or as long as I can make it last. 4 years out of a piece of daily used and abused tech is good innings and although it's a nice treat to upgrade, I can't help but baulk at the £40+ monthly cost needed to get a flagship phone.

I don't mind there being phones without these things, but it boggles my mind that 3.5mm headphone socket, replaceable battery, micro SD slot and just plain rectangular screens are being phased out.

Had an interesting one with my Note 4, which is now unreliable due to the MMC chip coming loose, temporary fixed by shoving a bit of cardboard behind it but not worth doing a permanent fix now. At one point it just went nuts on attempting to boot and sat there with the vibration running constantly at max and constant error beeps and would have continued to do it for probably several days until the battery ran out if I couldn't remove it... no one ever seems to think of or see the value of taking into account contingency situations these days and will only learn the hard way, if it ever happens, but even if rare not allowing for it is pants on head stupidity which sadly seems to be infecting more people than not...

Temporarily I've picked up a Sony Xperia 10 V in the hope sometime in the next months or years something better will come out phone wise, to be fair if they'd extended the footprint to 16:9 and used the additional physical space to garage a stylus, put in a better camera and a little higher performance SOC and removable battery, it would be the perfect phone for my tastes :(

Samsung S10, ~4 years. Battery is pretty spent at this point, and it can be a tad sluggish, but otherwise still a very decent option imo. 3.5mm jack + micro-sd slot are going to make it tough to replace and beat!

My Xperia 5ii is a little under 3 years old and going strong.

My last phone an Xperia XZ lasted around 4 years before the battery wouldn't hold sufficient charge.

Prior to that my Galaxy S3 also lasted about 4 years.

I find little incentive to upgrade until it fails.

Currently have a Redmi Note 10 Pro which has a nice 120hz Amoled screen and I usually keep my phone for 2-3 year before upgrading as I find for daily usage it fulfils most of my needs.

Huawei P20 Pro, probably over 5 years old. The USB C charging slot is very loose now so can't connect to Android Auto in my car. Have been thinking about upgrading to the Pixel 7 Pro for a while now.

My Huawei Mate 10 Pro is almost exactly five years old. The battery is still not too bad, and there is the odd occasion the charger doesn't quite slot home now and I wake up to a dead phone. It's showing its age a bit with handling more than a few browers tabs open, though, and generally started to feel a bit sluggish. Also, the case I bought for it is now falling apart and held together in places with Gorilla tape.

Probably telling me it's time for a new phone, but I really don't feel the need other than it would be nice to have snappier response times in browsers and apps. I may just let the case continue falling apart and then use it without until the inevitable fumble cracks or breaks something.

Currently under 1 year as I upgraded to Pixel 7 last year. I tend to upgrade every 3 years. Had Pixel 1, Pixel 4 and now 7. Before that I think I had Nexus 5 for bit over 3 years. I'm not a Google funboy, honest :D

Still rocking a samsung Galaxy S8.. battery still last all day easily.. couple of dings on the screen but all still works.. still can't see anything that new phones can do that this one can't..

My S21U.
Can't see needing a new phone until I break it.. Or a revolution in camera comes along.

Folding phones hold no appeal for me. I'd choose a traditional over a fold at same price
